Mishka was sweating. It was hard work getting five gallons of the liquid out of the car and into the house. She arranged them all in the bathroom near the tub. She made sure to get everything in order before the deed was done. She had packed all her clothes for her sister and best friend. Most of the other items would go to a goodwill store.
All the notes and gifts Dustin had bought her were in a neat pile by the door, waiting for him. He would need them when this was over. Something to remember her. Alongside them was a note with his name on it. It explained everything, he would have no questions as to what drove her to her actions. It was time. She picked up the phone to call him.
"Yea," he said the moment the connection was made. His voice was annoyed as if she was always calling him for something.
She didn't bother answering him. She just sat the phone on the counter leaving the call open. He will come.
In the bathroom again Mishka finished her task. One after another she unscrewed the container and emptied its contents into the bath water she had drawn earlier. The liquid was much lighter than the water and easily guided itself back to the surface. She undressed and sat on the side of the tub waiting.
Four minutes, an hour, she wasn't sure how long she had been waiting. As soon as she heard the click of the doorknob she knew Dustin had arrived. In an unhurried manner, she stepped into the tub, submerging her entire body, resurfacing with her body completely soaked with the liquid combination.
"What are you doing Mishka?" he said halting at the door to the bathroom. He dared not come in. The scene was disturbing, to say the least. His eyes scanned the room. There were five gasoline containers on the floor. Mishka had in hand a book of matches, with one ready to strike.
"I'll wait for you" Mishka whispered. She strikes the match and with it ablaze dropped it in the gasoline and water combination. The gas and her body were ignited immediately.
Dustin was stunned for a moment but then quickly went into action. A fire extinguisher was his first thought and he ran for it. Gone. Mishka had already taken care of that. He then when to get a huge pot to fill with water running to the kitchen, turning on the faucet. Nothing. Mishka had turn the water main off.
Dustin found his way back in the bathroom only to watch is love burn. She didn't scream, yell or make one sound. She only looked at him. By now her hair was gone, fingers turned into nubs and her skin was a crust of blackness. Only when she succumbs to her injuries did she slump forward and sink in the water, putting out the fuse.
"She set herself on fire, she's dead" Dustin said to the operator on the line. He dropped to his knees and sobbed.
After a few days he was able to go through the gifts she'd left for him to have. Everything he had ever given her. When he got to the note his heart started to race. He was dreading this part, the reason why she did it.
Dustin,
I saw you. August 7th
See you soon.
Dustin instantly new that date. It was her last cycle. He hated when it was that time of the month for her. She always had a bad attitude and he could never have her body, so he had decided another body would due. That was the night he cheated. He didn't know how she knew but it had somehow come to light and now he was paying the price. He felt the guilt but oh no she wasn't putting it all on him he thought.
