Turning over, I grabbed the bed sheets and bought them up to my shoulders. It was getting chilly outside as winter was fast approaching.

Wait.

Mother never gave me any bed sheets. No matter how cold it was. And my carpet was not this warm and cosy.

Sitting up, I frantically looked around and began panicking when I didn't recognise my surroundings. I winced when my head started throbbing.  carefully sitting up I leaned against the headboard.  And then it all came rushing back. The fire. The crash. The hospital. And the man that bought me here.

Standing up on shaking legs, I went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. My throat was parched.

With great difficult, I finally managed to locate the kitchen. The house was not only huge, but beautiful too. It had a theme to it. Grey and red. The sofas and walls were a light grey colour. Coming into the kitchen, I noticed that the dining table was a dark red colour.  A chandelier that probably cost millions hung from the ceiling in every room I went into. Whoever that kind man was, must be very rich, I thought.

Looking through the cabinets, I noticed there was a box of orange juice. Mother never let me have juice. Sighing, I grabbed the glass and poured myself some water. Gulping it down, I washed and placed it back where it belongs.

My stomach made a loud growl. I knew that I hadn't ate a morsel in more than 24 hours. I was really tempted to eat something, but refrained myself from doing so. What if he got angry? I shouldn't be roaming around the house without permission.

Making my way back to my room, I lay my head on the pillow and drifted off to slumber.

***************

For the first time in my life I woke up to the birds chirping, instead of screams, shouts and beatings.

Going into the en suite bathroom, I did my business, washed my face and brushed my teeth with the new toothbrush I found in the cabinet. I ran my fingers through my hair as I didn't have a brush to brush it put with. Tying it back up in a bun, I decided to go out. I knew the man was awake as I heard laughter coming through the doors.

Opening the door I was about to enter the kitchen.

Being the clumsy girl that I am, I tripped over my dress and knocked over a vase that sat on the table near the kitchen. it shattered to tiny pieces.

Bending down onto my knees, I desperately stared picking up the pieces of broken glass.

"Hey, your gonna hurt yourself. Leave it it's fine." A warm hand engulfed my own. Shakily looking up, I recognised who it was. He was also at the hospital yesterday. What was his name? Yes, Zac.

From the corner of my eye, I saw him lift his hand. Thinking he was going to raise it on me, I flinched back. Breathing heavily, I leaned against the wall. Instead, he took my hand in his and led me to the kitchen. Throwing the broken piecesin the dustbin, I took a seat on the chair near...Alex I think?

"Do you want some breakfast?" I heard the man ask. I really should ask him what his name was. Calling him 'that man' was weird. Remembering he asked me a question, I nodded my head.

Getting up, he started making what I saw as egg and some toast. Placing them on a plate he turned to me and asked "Do you want some tea or coffee?"

Looking behind him, I noticed the orange juice was still there. The one I saw last night. Without thinking what I was doing, I raised my hand and pointed to it. Then I panicked. What had I just done! Was I even allowed to do that?

To my utter surprise, he grabbed a glass and poured me some. Taking the plate in one hand and the glass in the other, he place them both in front of me and sat down.

Then I waited. Mother never allowed me to eat without permission first. Thinking he would do the same, I sat and waited patiently for him to speak.

"Do you want something else?" He asked, placing his beer on the table. He walked up to me and took my plate in his hands. I placed my hand on his arm and  took the plate off him and placed it back on the table. Of course I wanted it. But how would I tell him that? Remembering about the  pad placed in the bedroom, I went in search for it. Finding it sat on the edge of the bed, I hastily  grabbed it and went back out. Quickly scribbling what I needed to say on it, i gave it to him.

His eyes read the words and a look of confusion masked his face.

"Yeah, of course" He said, handing the pad back to me.

Happy with the asnswer, I sat down and dug into what was the best meal I have had my whole life. And there haven't been many to compare it to.
