"Hey, Jaehee?"
"Yes? Is something the matter?"
(Name) can't help but notice how immediately responsive the young woman is to everything she says. Even as she sits peacefully on a chair by her bedside, it's evident that she's always attentive to (Name)'s actions, however small or insignificant. Has she always been like that?
"There was a black-haired man with you when I woke up... Jumin, I think it was," (Name) pauses, mentally noting the name for the future. "But I haven't seen him since. Do you know where he's been?"
Jaehee's narrow frame stiffens, and (Name) quickly comes to a realisation. "Oh! I didn't mean to say that you aren't good company, I was just curious–"
When the brunette turns in (Name)'s direction, she allows a small smile to blossom across her face. "It's alright. I know that's not how you intended it."
A furrow mars (Name)'s face as the other woman's smile fades as quickly as it came. From the new tautness in her expression, (Name) can tell she's touched on a subject that's caused a significant amount of worry for Jaehee.
"Mr Han has been working fervently since it was announced that you had become amnesiac. He's... not in a good place right now. I've been taking days off work at his command to check on you."
(Name) blinks in surprise, then asks; "Why doesn't he check on me himself? Did we fight before my accident?"
"No, not at all," she hesitates, and then places her hands on her lap to face (Name) solemnly. "(Name), Mr Han is the Director of C&R International, and as part of the way he was raised, he was always approached by people with false intentions behind their kindness."
In an instant, (Name)'s heart lurches in a mixture of surprise and empathy. She falls silent as she takes in Jaehee's words, unsure of how to respond.
"No one truly made an effort to understand him– and when they did try, they failed. He doesn't have many people who he wholeheartedly trusts," another hesitation. Her eyes close and her lips purse, as if remembering something unpleasant. "He had three people that he believed truly understood him. Two have proven themselves to be disloyal to him for various complex reasons, and the last person..."
"Was me," (Name) finishes quietly. Jaehee nods.
"So now... because I don't remember him, he believes he has no one who understands him," the (colour)-haired girl continues. Her eyes drop to the crisp hospital linens, and she takes a deep breath in. "He must be so tired of this..."
"Mr Han has told me that he understands this is stressful for you already," Jaehee explains, as if hoping the words would offer (Name) some respite. "He thought it better to keep his distance to make things easier for the two of you, rather than pressing his troubles on you."
(Name) watches absently as her fingers knot themselves together, clumping the bedsheets together a little. For the umpteenth time her heart drops due to her development. "It's clear to me that everyone seems to be struggling with my amnesia," she says softly. "I think it's something that we need to work through it together. I don't know how I'll ever remember Jumin if I don't see him."
"My thoughts exactly," Jaehee sighs. "I have told him that, but he doesn't always listen to me..."
(Name) sighs too, undoing the knot in her fingers and making do with holding them together. The only memories she can recall of the raven-haired man roil about her head, trying to note any particular mannerisms. However, it's clear that everyone was quite relieved and distressed when she woke up, so nothing really catches her attention.
