2 WEEKS LATER
"Sophia?"
I sighed, being broken from my daydream, and rose from the tree swing I'd just created.
"Yes?" I replied, hiding my annoyance with a cheerful tone. I swung open one of the glass conservatory doors, searching for the voice.
It was Mistress.
"Ah, Sophia, I've been looking for you, come child," she placed a firm hand on my stiff shoulder, pacing with me through the proudly decorated hallway, stern eyes watching me from their portrait frames. It was hard work keeping up with her. She came to a halt at the bottom of winding, tall, staircase, before pausing to open her mouth;
"Tonight the maids and I have planned an important dinner party."
I silenced my automatic groan.
"All of the science giants are attending, we've managed to invite fifteen seperate compainies," she hesitated, before coming closer towards me, allowing me to notice every line of her aging, tired face, "You do know what this means?" she questioned, quietly.
I nodded, quickly revising the 'thank you's' and 'your welcome's' that I'd have to run over with her. Wanting to escape, I weaved past her, trying to reach the top of the stairs before she disrupted me again.
"Oh, and Sophia?" she asked, once again,
"Mmm?"
"There's an outfit on the bed. Make sure it fits please."
My face dropped suddenly. I'd never worn an 'outfit' before. I nodded, bouncing up the last few steps, disguising my further dissapointment. Hearing the fading clicks of her black heels as she strutted away, I entered my grand bedroom and pushed the door shut gently.
I held the dress up to my lean body, and took a long study in the full-length mirror, cringing slightly noticing the un-flattering details. Throwing the dress onto a vintage Victorian chair, I melted into my matress, pondering the events that had happened over the last two weeks.
Fourteen days ago, I was born. For the second time. Denied from ever knowing the reason why I was locked up for nearly 13 years, I'd had an eventful time. Mistress has forced the scientists that held me captive awaken me, and had adopted me, allowing me to live with her and her beloved maids in her wealthy mansion. I'd had two memory chips implanted in my brain, which taught me to speak, read, write and perform other normal actions in a matter of days.
I knew for a fact that without Mistress, I'd still be in the cell now. However, I wasn't happy. I'd never know my past and why I'd been kept in there. I'd never know my father, or my mother.
But I was alive.
