Framed photographs shook as I slammed open the warddrobe door, furiously, pulling out the nearest rucksack. Forming a pile of the bedroom carpet, I hastily grabbed out a few clothes, and closed the door as vicously as I'd opened it. Pacing left, I extented my agile body to reach the top of an oak cabinet, selecting bare essentials; a torch, notepad, a wolly hat, toothbrush and some other random acssesories I'd chosen in my anger.
The pile was thrown on the the centering bed, and stuffed hurriedly into the bag. It just fit.
I could hear a few desperate calls downstairs, so, precociously, I wedged another book underneath the door, blocking any unwanted visitors. Beads of sweat formed at the tips of my rushed ponytail, and, glancing at the mirror, I realised I was still in the dress I'd once cared so much about. That didn't matter now. I threw on a pair of jeans and a hoodie, items that I'd barely worn, especially not in front of Mistress. Looking once again at my reflection, I tried to breath normally, as a unrecognisable tear-stained figure peered back at me.
"Sophie I'm telling you one more time if you don't open this door-"
"-GO AWAY!" I yelled emotionally, throwing a shoe at the door, knowing she'd feel the vibrations of the hit on the other side.
I slung the packed rucksack over my shoulder and ran, heart pounding overtime in my head, towards the largest window in my bedroom. With a firm shove of the rusty bolt, it swung open with a creak, and a rush of icy autumnal air swept over my face. Light was fading, but I could still see details of the expensive garden lawn.
I sighed. This was not the way I wanted to leave Oakrose Manor. But, she'd given me no other option.
Taking a small last glance at my bedroom, I shut the window behind me, as I crawled onto the roof, leaving the only world I'd ever known behind me.
This was goodbye.
