[Modern AU]

Summary:
Being a teenager is exhausting. It's made even more so when one enjoys cross-dressing in a world of the closed-minded. Eren has learned to prioritize his lifestyle over the opinions of others, but life is starting to crack down on his hardened shell.
His resilience returns to reward him, however, when a French transfer student ventures into the school unannounced.

Top Levi, Bottom Eren. Eren is a bit shorter than cannon.

"Yeah, go run off in your little skirt like you always do, fucking bitch!" As he slammed the screen door of his house behind him and stomped off the wooden porch, Eren finally lost the furious battle against the tears that flooded his vision.
"Fuck off!" he yelled with a broken voice, the sound tearing through his throat, and the flat souls of his shoes slapping against the ground as he began stomping away from his house. He swung his bag violently over his shoulder and gripped its strap with a claw-like force, anger coursing through his veins, and tears cascading down his cheeks.

His father never missed a chance to belittle him. If Eren finally decided to eat breakfast before school, he'd be there to demean him. If he picked out a skirt his mother had bought him instead of leggings or jeans; he would never hear the end of it until his inevitable escape.
Peace was not an option in Eren's household when it came to his lifestyle choices, it never had been.

He couldn't remember a single week where Grisha's voice wasn't there to tear him down, as if crushing his spirit with repetitive force would cause something to snap within Eren—that if he beat his resolve enough, he would finally get the hint and become 'normal.' He'd heard it all from the unhinged man he lived with.
Maybe Grisha had already given up on the chance that Eren would change, accepting that he never would in a sickeningly ironic sense, so, he opted to make Eren regret his choice instead.

Whatever his father felt was a valid enough reason to have made his only son dread his place of living, Eren's heart wasn't made of stone.
To others it may have appeared that way; he kept his head down and rarely smiled, he presented himself the way he desired and didn't make the effort to meet others' expectations. Once upon a time, they mattered to him. But how was it worth it to try when others couldn't simply let him be?

However, that hadn't always meant he wanted to be alone. No, he dreamt—fantasized, even—about quite the opposite. But he knew that wasn't in the cards for him. While he knew love and acceptance was what he desired, he'd since given up on that hope. After all, the one person who had granted him those left him.
His mother, who passed away two years ago from a car accident, left him broken and alone with a dark vacancy in his heart. When she was no longer there to keep his father at bay, he became ruthless. There was no one to love him anymore, no one to tell him everything would be okay.
