"So I guess this is goodbye for now," Ricky says. He pulls me into a warm hug. We are both on the verge of tears. It's just going to be so hard only seeing him through videos online twice a week. Nothing will ever be the same.
"Hey, we can always call, text, FaceTime, and see each others videos. I know it won't be the same, but it's something. You know I'm going to miss you and will definitely come and visit when I can right?"
I nod my head. I get it, I do.
Ricky's flight is called over the intercom. I walk with him all the way to his flight line until he shows the flight attendant his boarding pass.
"Oh I almost forgot something," Ricky exclaims.
"Oh Ricky I can drive back home and grab whatever you need."
"Yeah I know you would do that, but you see, what I forgot is right here!"
Ricky jumps over the security band and lands in front of me.
"It was this!' He leans in and gives me the most amazing kiss ever. I never thought Ricky liked me as much as I liked him.
"While I'm in California, I never want you to forget that," he says. And with that, Ricky boards his plane, waving back at me until I can no longer see him.
This is what it feels like to not know what was coming.
