Rachel's POV:
Well. Apparently I'm being mind controlled now. I didn't feel any different, just a bit fuzzy in the head. It was the next morning, and I didn't get any sleep. My friends were just waking up to get ready for the Maze.
"So what exactly did you have to do?" Grace popped up beside me, scaring me half to death.
"Grace! Be quiet! And it was nothing..." I couldn't tell anyone what happened.
"Was it about Theo?" Grace gave me a sly smile. I rolled my eyes. Standing from my moss-bed on the floor, I made my way over to Anna and Sky. They were saying their goodbyes, and promising not to die to Ashlyn.
"I can walk you guys to the meetup spot," I offered. They where going to wait by the Maze doors for Meson and Theo. Even though Ashlyn already volunteered to walk them, I needed an excuse for tagging along.
"What, do we need parental supervision?" Anna laughed.
"Well who else is gonna keep you two from making bad choices in life?" I was glad they didn't question me joining them.
"Alright, well I think we got everything..." Skylar took one last look around camp. We were ready to go, and I still didn't know what exactly to say to Theo.
"Say hi to Meson for me!" Julie called after us as we were walking out the log door. Shuffling down the dirt path, I could here shouting. That wasn't a good sign.
We hurried to the edge of the forest, and squinted out into the Glade. At the western door stood Gaia, with a spear propped up in front of her. She seemed to be arguing with two other girls. Meson and Theo.
"How the heck are we supposed to make it to the meeting point now?" Anna complained. She had a good point. No one wanted to go near Gaia when she was awake, especially Ashlyn.
"We can shift." I remembered what Grace and I did to cross the Glade last night.
"Into what exactly? I don't think Gaia would appreciate exotic animals just wandering around her." No one really enjoyed shifting, but if you're in a situation like this, you'd kinda want to.
"Butterflies...we can just fly up there and talk into Meson and Theo's ears!" Ashlyn whispered.
"I'd just love for a butterfly to crawl in my ear..." muttered Anna, receiving a punch to the shoulder by Ashlyn. Anna shifted into a purple butterfly. The rest of us followed. Blue, white, purple, and black butterflies flew high in the air. The world seemed giant from this perspective.
"Come on people we're wasting daylight!" Skylar hovered and did a cartwheel.
"People? We ain't people!" Anna shouted, flying in circles. We spread out a little more, and fluttered out of the shade, over to the giant stone walls. The closer we got, the more clearly we could hear what Gaia was saying.
"I just know you two are up to something!" She snapped at the two girls.
"Don't you have more important people to yell at?" Meson sighed.
"No, not at the moment." We were high above their heads now, trying to figure out what our next step is. I'm not to worried about the other three though. I'm more concerned how I'll be able to talk to Theo. I focus my attention on her, trying to make a plan on how to get to her. A girl suddenly sneaks up to Theo while I was busy plotting. They are much shorter than Theo, and have long dark brown hair in a pony tail with a red faded flannel over their shoulders. I swoop down to them.
"Hey Emily, what's up?" Theo smiles at her.
"Looking for power, and possibly drugs." Emily replied, emotionless. Theo awkwardly laughed.
"Well you won't find any drugs here," Gaia glared at Emily, "now shuck off and get to work." Emily just sighed.
"Please just kill me..." she sulked off to another group, most likely still looking for drugs. Gaia shook her head and followed Emily, yelling curses at other girls.
"Where are they?" Meson leaned against one of the opening's walls. My friends slowly glided into the grass, and shifted back to fae. My time was running out.
"What was Gaia bothering you guys about?" Skylar asked. I quickly perched onto Theo's ear. Meson started to say something, but I had no time to listen. I hung upside down, so my little mouth was closer to her ear.
"Theo!" I whispered. She jumped and shook her head, tossing me side to side.
"Stop moving! It's making me dizzy! Don't say anything either, but this is Rachel. I didn't get to finish what I was saying last night. I just wanted to say-"
"Come on Theo!" Meson yelled. Theo turned her head, and I was swung around. Meson, Anna, and Skylar were already a few feet inside the Maze.
"Sorry Rachel..." Theo whispered under her breath. She started jogging after the three, and I fell off her ear and into the grass. And there went my chance.
