Chapter One

I had been waiting for this moment for so long. The fact that it was actually happening was surreal, to say the least. I looked down at my white lace skirt and smoothed it out. Anything to keep my hands busy. I bent over in my chair and straightened out my laces and my classic black and white converse. I sat back up and tried to sit still.

To no avail, I rearranged my peach colored shirt again and again, deciding which shoulder should go bare. I pulled out my compact mirror and checked my hair. Unfortunately for the sake of my patience, it was fine. And I had worn no more make-up than a thin line of eyeliner on my upper lids, mascara and Chapstick. I knew blush would serve no purpose because I'd turn natural deep red when my excitement was at its highest.

I wore no jewelry except my arrow necklace. But I always wore it. Because of its significance. I smiled as I held the tiny arrow between my fingers. The windows in the hotel lobby let in the sun as it warmed my back and calmed my nerves.

"Hello, everyone!" yelled a woman, breaking my trance and causing my to jump slightly in my chair.

"How are we all today?" she asked, excessively cheerful. Her smile was stunning. Pearly white and seemingly plastered onto her face. Her short red hair fell around her thin shoulders and she wore a long dress that was a blinding shade of yellow. I thought her appearance perfectly matched her personality. Happy, polite and forced.

"Amazing, of course! I don't even know why I asked!" she laughed. It sounded like she rehearsed that laugh for years. "My name is Rose! And as you all know, you ten lucky girls have won a very exclusive competition to meet and hangout with the lovely boys of One Direction! Yay!" she said, waving her hands in the air. She folded her hands in front of her and continued.

"I'm here to explain how this event is going to unfold. It will be held in the recreation room on the 50th floor. There are pool tables, air hockey tables, a television, couches and much more. You will be escorted up there in a few minutes and the boys will join you shortly. You will then have exactly three hours to talk and hangout with them," she said, flashing her pre-sculpted smile again.

"How fun!" she squealed, unconvincingly. The nine other girls squealed along with her and jumped up and down. I smiled.

A big man approached us and stood next to Rose.

"This is Charles. He will now escort you upstairs. Have fun ladies!" she said as she walked away. My heart began to beat irregularly and my breathing sped. And just as I predicted, my face became warmer and I knew I was becoming red

"This is happening," I whispered under my breath.

When we arrived at the recreation room, my emotions were at a full tilt. Charles, a man of very words, spoke into his walkie talkie.

"The girls are in the rec. room. Bring the boys up," he said, emotionlessly. That's when insanity broke out. The girls around me were screaming, jumping up and down and hyperventilating. Some even crying. And to my surprise, I was as still and calm as can be. My emotions, along with the beat of my heart, were at a reasonable pace.

Just outside the rec. room, we heard the elevator *ding* and the quiet swoosh of the doors open.

Complete silence fell across the room. No one was breathing. I counted the seconds. One. Two. Three. Four...

"Haha, you idiot!" It was Niall and Louis. I recognized their laughs. Everyone gasped and stared towards the door, waiting for it to open. We listened and heard further conversations betweent the boys. We couldn't hear clearly because their voices were muffled through the walls. But we heard each of them. Niall, Louis, Liam, Zayn and Harry. All talking, their voices becoming louder as the neared us. The anticipation was weakening.
