We return to the house by 10 o’clock. Jessica greets us at the door. Elias and Sabrina hand her their ice skates before running off to their rooms. “Hello ma’am. Did you have an enjoyable evening?”
“Yes, thank you Jessica. Is Gwen around?”
“I believe she has gone out for the evening, ma’am. Do you need her to be located? I can have Nicholas find her for you,” she says, offering the services of our butler.
“No, that will not be necessary. I shall be heading out shortly.” I shower and change for my visit to Thad’s, taking extra care in getting ready. I look myself over in the full-length mirror. Satisfied with the dress that I have chosen and the way my hair has been styled in large, loose curls, I instruct Nigel to take me to Thad’s house.
By the time we reach Scarsdale, it is close to 11:30. Nigel pulls up in front of the address that is written on the back of Thad’s card; a beautiful stone Tudor house surrounded by a lush lawn and garden. Nigel walks around to open the car door for me.
“Wait here. If he invites me in, you can take some time to yourself, but don’t go too far. I will call you when I am ready to leave.”
“Yes ma’am,” he says closing the door behind me.
I walk up the path to the portico. Before I make it up the three stone steps, Thad is already at the door.
“Hello,” I greet him in my most seductive tone. “I got your note and decided to pay you a visit. I hope you don’t mind my dropping by so late and unannounced.”
“Absolutely not,” he can barely conceal his delight. “I’m glad you came.” He kisses me softly on the cheek. “Please come in,” he says, stepping back to allow me entrance.
Once inside, he takes my coat to hang in the closet and places my purse down on a nearby table. “This is a beautiful home you have.”
The foyer is a large open space that has been painted eggshell white, with mahogany wood floors and a wooden staircase that leads upstairs. To my right is the living room furnished in a modern design. There are several large windows with a view to the front lawn that is partially obscured by the hedges. This must be how he saw me coming. In the center of the wall opposite the doorway is a large fireplace that takes up about 1/3 of the wall. Everything is neat and meticulous.
“Thank you. Would you like to see the rest of it?” he asks, offering me his arm.
“Sure.” I slip my arm through his. “Lead the way.”
He shows me around the main floor; the living room, den, study, dining room and kitchen. The kitchen is a marble masterpiece. All of the appliances are brand new and state of the art. Over the sink, there is a large window that looks out over the back patio. Beside the refrigerator is a set of glass doors leading out to the backyard.
From the window, I can see that he has a built-in pool that has been drained and covered for the season and an adjoining Jacuzzi.
