Chan had been silent for the majority of the time that he and Jeongin walked around the camp, both mutually enjoying each others presence.
But Chan was worried, and for more reasons than one. He was worried because no counselors or cabin heads, were to have any relations with any of the campers, unless they were family or close family friends. Second of all, Jeongin had broken up with him and he didn't know what to make of that.
Yeah, he knew that Jeongin's parents were the ones that told him to break it off, but it still hurt. And while he wouldn't ever admit it, he was undeniably afraid of the younger breaking his heart again.
"What're you thinking of this time?" Jeongin asks, flashing him a smile as Chan shrugs.
"This and that, it's nothing, really." He says, ignoring the fact that he knows that Jeongin is probably giving him the look. He knows that if he looks at Jeongin, he'll spill, his mouth will get the better of him and nothing he does will ever stop that.
"And, you're making it again. So, what is going on up there? The only time I've seen you this deep in thought was for your midterms last year." Jeongin says, stopping in his tracks as they step into a small clearing away from the camp.
"Well, if you really must know, I'm not even sure at this point." Chan says, sitting off to the side on a conveniently placed rock. "Because I'm happy that I get to see you, but it also makes me miserable in a way."
Jeongin chuckles, nodding as he sits across from Chan on a tree stump. "Yeah, I know the feeling... but I think the funniest part of this is that my parents sent me here to forget about you, and here you are, the cabin head. Guess that's just the luck we've always had." Jeongin sighs, picking at his fingers. "So, how've you been, anyway?"
Chan shrugs. "I've certainly been better, but it's not been the worst either." He admits, watching as Jeongin nods, and he knows there's awkward tension between them because of everything that's been going on, but he can't really do anything about it in his situation. "What about you, have you been doing okay?"
Jeongin actually laughs, hard enough he has to catch his breath. "God, no. I've been miserable. I wasn't even allowed to leave the house at first, and then my dad tells me I'm getting shipped off to camp. Yeah, not exactly my idea of fun." By now that smile that come about with the laughter was gone, and a look of dissatisfaction and self loathing had plastered itself to his face.
Chan was about to say something, but before he could even open his mouth, a wild Minho had appeared out of seemingly nowhere, smiling widely despite the palpable misery lingering between the two.
"Hey, Chan, there you are!" He shouted happily, walking up when he noticed Jeongin off to the side. "And who's your friend?" He asks, turning back to Chan.
"Minho, this is Jeongin. Jeongin, this is Minho, the cabin head for the purple bands." Chan says, earning a look of immediate shock from Minho, which he quickly hides under another smile.
"Pleasure to meet you Jeongin." He says, shaking the youngers hand.
"Likewise." Jeongin says, flashing a smile that Chan knows is forced. He knows it's forced because his teeth don't show, it's a simple closed mouth smile he used to flash at Chan ever time he used to ask when he'd get to meet the youngers parents.
"Well, I'm sorry to have to interrupt you further, but I need Chan for camp stuff. It was nice getting to meet you, Jeongin." Minho says quickly, grabbing Chan up from his seat before rushing off past the camp and to a trail that isn't open to the kids.
"You're cutting off circulation to my hand." Chan deadpans, prying Minho's hand off of him as the latter turns on his heels only to hit him on the back of the head.
"What the hell!? Jeongin? As in, your ex, Jeongin?!" Minho whisper shouts, giving Chan the most frustrated and confused he look he's ever given before.
"I didn't know he was going to be here, and we've barely even talked at all. Besides, I know my place now, and believe me when I say it isn't with him anymore." Chan snaps, his mood dropping from fifty to zero real quick.
"Lets hope you're right, because this camp really doesn't need any scandals right now." Minho says, huffing a little as Chan snorts.
"Oh, you mean like the cabin head born in 98' dating the owners brother who was born in '00? Because I don't think that's acceptable by camp rules either, seeing as he's still technically a camper here."
"It's not like that!" Minho shouts, even going as far as stomping his foot like as toddler does when they have a temper tantrum.
"Then what is it like, Minho? I've seen making out in the boat shack at least twice within the last two days during setup, and I know I saw you sneaking out of his personal cabin before, at six in the morning, in the clothes you'd worn the previous day. So pardon me, if my assumptions have been wrong!"
Minho won't even look at him now, instead he just shakes his head. "Ya' know what? Go ahead, make friends with him again, fall in love all over again. But when he breaks your heart, and his parents find out that you work here, don't come crawling to me, or Han, and you sure as hell, shouldn't even bother trying to talk to Hoon." He marches off shortly after, and Chan knows that he's right.
He can't be friends with Jeongin, not now, not here. He'll just get hurt and end up with his heart broke again when summer ends.
Yet, he doesn't mind.

1001 words. How?
I'm trying to get updates out, but it's soooo difficult.
In my brain, I'm at like chapter 12+ or so, but I'm not even six chapters in irl.
And not to mention, I'm only able to write at 10pm-2am 'Cause I don't like writing during the day for whatever reason.
Like, my brain stops functioning whenever the sun is out.😅😅😅
So, please bear with me.
Love, Siha.☀☀☀
