Things had been a bit better between Chan and Jeongin, but now things were extremely awkward for Felix and Changbin, which resulted in more than a few moments of silence for the group as a whole.
Jeongin, for whatever reason, also seemed to be in the middle of all the tension, which left him feeling uneasy due to the fact that Chan and Felix were cousins, and that Changbin was his cousin, and that something would have to give sooner or later. Which did hurt him a little on the inside.
"ThAt IsnT hOw yoU usE a CanOE!" Taeyong, a councilor screeches as both Han and Park Jisung row further away from the shoreline, a worried looking Seungmin stuffed into the extra seat.
Chan watches in amusement, simply because he trusts that Han wouldn't do something completely stupid. Or at least nothing more than tipping the canoe, which was fine as everyone knew how to swim, and they were wearing lift vests anyway.
Jeongin shakes his head at the ordeal, a small smile on his face as Taeyong tries to convince them to come back to shore, especially now that Park is trying to stand up in the canoe.
Seungmin is slightly tapping his leg, begging him to sit back down, but he laughs a little more as the canoe rocks slowly from side to side. Han has a wild smile on his face and Seungmin looks absolutely petrified.
"Do you wanna take a walk for a bit?" Chan asks, watching as the canoe starts rocking more violently, both Jisungs laughing as Seungmin looks ready to abandon ship, and Taeyong looks as if his knees might give out from stress.
"Yeah, sure." Jeongin says with a smile, standing up and following Chan along the edge of the lake, away from the idiots, and further from the camp.
It's peaceful out by the lake once the faint laughter of campers drifts away, and the only sound to be heard is the subtle rustle of leaves on trees and the small ripples in the lake due to fish.
They end up sitting at the edge of the lake, their feet dipped into the cool water as they toss pebbles into the lake, occasionally talking.
Eventually they run out of loose pebbles, the others embedded into the soil deeply, and it's then that Jeongin just leans over, his head resting on Chans shoulder.
"Do you ever wonder what it'd be like if you and I never met?" Jeongin asks softly, and Chan sneaks his hand into Jeongin's.
"No. Because I like focusing on the positive, and my life without you, is anything but happy." Chan says, his voice soft as he rests his head against Jeongin's.
Jeongin simply hums in return, letting them enjoy the moment together since they don't get to sit like this usually.
Jeongin dislikes that they have to sneak around so much at night, that they can't just sit at the same table at lunch, that Chan can't give him a simple kiss to the forehead even.
He dislikes the secrecy he has to use with the boys, that he cant just tell them whats going on. He has to hide it, and he hates having to hide things. He hated that when he and Chan were first dating he had to keep it such a secret from his family.
He just wants things to be normal for them. Is that too much to ask for? Apparently it is, apparently the universe can't cut them a break. Maybe it's in the cards that they just arent supposed to work out, or that they'll always have to fight trying to be.
But whatever it is, he wishes it wasn't. He just wants to love his boyfriend, and vice versa, why can't he just do that without worry?
He sighs deeply, and lets Chan's presence calm him down again. One day doing this in front of the others won't be a bad thing.
But right now, its the worst thing he could be doing.
