Chapter Four Deliveries
✧ ─ ✧ ─ ✧
The entire world was black. It took a moment before Davina realized she was only seeing the back of her eyelids and her eyes were still in fact closed. If only she had truly been greeted by the true emptiness of the afterlife to avoid what existed behind her closed eyes. When they gradually fluttered open and she saw James Potter at her side, helping her sit up, Davina knew there was no escape. Her heart ached and she felt like throwing up only to realize that would only make this situation, much, much worse.
"Are you alright?" James asked, worry laced in his tone. One hand was sprawled on her shoulder and the other gripped her free hand as he lifted her from the grounds.
Davina forced a smile on her face and nodded away her embarrassment. "I'm fine."
"Right. Right, is there anything you need? Water? A band-aid? Should I call Madam Pomfrey?"
"No, no, I'm fine, really."
James didn't know what else to do beside help the girl stand when she finally tried pulling herself up. He steadied her, picking off an old leaf that was caught on her robes from her sudden, and dramatic, departure from consciousness. His eyes watched her warily almost ready to leap out again to catch her if she fainted again. "Uh, so anyway. I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate your letter, but I've actually had feelings for Evans and don't think—"
Davina's eyes glanced behind James for a moment and saw one, Peter Kavinsky, making his way straight towards them. How could she have forgotten? Peter was another recipient of Davina's letters. Her eyes trailed down to his hand and sure enough, his letter was gripped tightly between it. Her heart raced at the thought of her personal feelings being exposed to another receipt who was never, ever supposed to know. This could ruin her friendship with Peter. Peter, who had been her best friend since first year. Peter, who had was in the midst of a relationship with Gracie Charles, the Hufflepuff in his divination class. Peter, who was... Peter.
Seeking a way to avoid him, she glanced at James, who was still talking and rambling about his own letter, and thoughtlessly did something she never thought she would ever — not in a million years — do again.
She kissed James Potter.
James' eyes widened at the sudden action and froze. Davina's hands were around the sides of his jaw, the only real grasp she was able to get ahold of as she pulled him down to her level. All his mind could focus on was the warmth and softness currently invading his senses. It felt like the embodiment of sensitivity and belonging which was strange since the last time he kissed Davina it was pure hormones and teen angst that rattled through him. When James slowly reached to place his hands on her waist, Davina broke away and looked behind him. Peter stopped in his tracks with a look of disbelief and confusion on his face.
