Hydrophobic
Chapter One
I tossed and turned in bed. Who would make so much noise in the middle of the night? I groaned, burying my head under the pillow to block out the noise.
The honking and the moving of things was even more annoying than my alarm clock! And I abhor that ringing sphere.
Did I just say honking and moving? Shit. Is Paranormal Activity 4 happening in my house? It would make sense because I hear boxes being thrown and furniture scraping the floor.
Sitting upright, I examined my room to see if anything was out of place.
Nope.
Must be the neighbor or something.
Wait. I don't have a neighbor! Mrs Feline moved out with her basket of scrawny-looking cats last year. I remember the times Oliver and I would play pranks on her because her reactions were always humorous. She gets worked up over the simplest things. I guess she got irritated and moved to England or something.
And she probably lived happily ever after. With her bunch of cats.
My other neighbor moved out ten years ago, when I was six. I used to be best friends with their son but after Mr and Mrs Weiss filed their divorce, they moved out.
I walked towards the window and watched the truck parked outside the Weiss house.
"Please don't tell me Mrs Feline hates the rain in England and decides to move back!" I groaned, pressing my face on the glass as I watched the movers move the boxes into the house.
Yup, they were the ones making the noise and keeping me up all night.
The full moon shone over the streets, making the roofs of the houses look luminous. The street lamps looked like fireflies in the streets, giving the town a warm orange glow.
I watched a teenage girl, probably my age, directing the movers. So it's not Mrs Feline but her daughter instead! I bet Oliver and I will have loads of fun messing with her head. But what was she doing at the Weiss house?
Then a boy about her age came walking out of the house. The girl walked up to him, wrapping her hands around his neck and leaning in to kiss him. He didn't kiss back though but gently pushed her away before picking up another box and heading back to the house.
He looked familiar though.
Could he be the best friend I used to play with? He still had that luscious brown hair and the average built.
I can't be too sure since it's midnight and it's dark. I can hardly see anything but the lights.
I looked at the window in the Weiss house. It was opposite mine, maybe a few meters away, and I could see that the room had boxes in it. I remember the days when I would stay up all night just to talk to my childhood best friend using a sketchbook and a Sharpie. Our spelling was bad and if we couldn't spell the word, we'd just draw what we felt.
It was like in the music video of You Belong With Me.
I think his name was Aiden.
I let out a yawn before crawling back into my bed. I'll see who really moved in next door tomorrow.

I felt myself plunge into the cold water. The icy water slithered on my face, entering my nostrils and ears, killing me slowly. I sat up straight, gasping for air before wiping my face on my pillow. I turned to look at the person who tried to kill me.
