"Are you serious right now?" Connor asked as Peggy looked away: ignoring him.
"Peggy?! Fucking listen to me!" Connor spat, tears spilling from his eyes as his throat burnt. He clenched his fist in anger but at the same time he felt like falling to his knees and bursting into tears. She could hear the pain in his voice, the hurt, the betrayal. She straightened herself up, her heart pleading her to turn around but she couldn't, she wouldn't. She should've.
"Peggy please." Connor's voice trembled in pain, his tears now blurring his vision. Peggy took a few steps away from him, he sighed sadly.
"Peggy you can't shut me out. I'm not like everyone else! I care about you! Please." The knees of his jeans stained by the muddy grass. The moon shone above them, creating a peaceful light, he could remember the nights him and her would cycle around. Talking. Ranting on about, anything really. It was silent, all they could hear is the soft night breeze, brushing their hair slightly. He heard a sigh from Peggy, she turned slowly. He looked up.
"Connor." She whispered, he saw her face was red from crying, her mouth cracked up into a forced, reassuring smile. He cautiously eased up, she laughed and wiped a tear from her eye.
"I'm so sorry." He ran up to her, wrapping her arms around her. The tight embrace felt right, she leant into his shoulder sobbing freely. He stroked her hair happily,
"Peggy it's ok. It's ok." She grabbed his shirt tightly, he kissed her neck gently. She laughed happily, she lost all insecurities as he held her tight. All their troubles, all their worries, everything: was gone. Faded away like the light from the News Year Eve fireworks, faded away like the rain that spoilt Cade's funeral, faded away like the colour in Peggy's beautiful spring dress. He hugged her tighter, he was so happy to have her with him, not hiding, not scared, but happy with him. If only she could see how happy she was with him, but she loved someone else, she loved Noah.He gave her one last squeeze and stepped back, she rubbed her hands nervously and looked up into his brown eyes, he knew that fiddle. She only did that with people she liked, when she didn't know what to say, when she felt unprepared, he blushed a little.
"Should we go home?" She asked, as she turned towards the bikes. Connor nodded. After all Noah was probably wondering what was taking them so long. He walked with her toward the other side of the hill. The grass held memories, past connections, held a story he hoped to tell his future children, to sit them down and tell the story of "The Girl Who Would Never Know." He threw his leg over the side and pedalled down toward Jackson's Street. Peggy caught up, she knew too, she knew that Connor only pedalled fast like that when he wanted to think, when he wanted to be alone, she slowed down and let him speed forward. She watched as the houses lights began to turn off, one by one, the streetlights ruined the moonlight. Connor turned left, she did the same. They crossed by Oliver Drive, turning again, soon they came to Number 7. Connor got off and knocked on the door, Noah opened it and smiled.
"Dude you were gone for ages." He said jokingly, Peggy stepped up beside him. Noah's smile grew brighter.
"You came back! Peggy!" Noah guided her inside, a hand around her shoulders. Connor cringed at how she let him lean into her. Stanley beamed and ran up to her,
"Hey! You're here!" He threw his arm around her as well. Connor adjusted his glasses and sat down in the lounge room, reminiscing on what happened before. How did that mean nothing to her? He flicked on the T.V the local news theme song played.
"Hello welcome back to Arkville Daily. Coming up tonight." Peggy swung over the couch, holding a bottle full of Coke, she cracked it open and took a big mouthful. Noah gently tipped it over, her hand touching his, she smiled and giggled as he poured into his cup and jumped onto the sofa.
"Geez." Connor muttered under his breath, Noah put a hand on Connor's shoulder self-consciously as he watched as Sophia Clarence told them the weather. He smiled at everyone and watched happily, the mood peaceful and calm. They were all so cheerful, he felt something light up inside of him. He felt finally like he had achieved, like he had done his absolute best.
"Uh we have just received an update on the status of the Arkville Massacre, we have news saying that Hank Webber has just confessed to have been joining forces with 5 other people. Does this mean the deaths of Helen Webber, Cade Mercury and Georgia Patterson weren't actually because of Hank's mental disabilities but because of something much deeper? We'll be informing you in a bit." Noah stood up, walking toward the kitchen. He threw open a drawer, pulling out his father's gun.
"Come on guys, lets find these fucking bastards."
"Dam straight."
