Chapter 16

The two weeks went by fast but not fast enough. I was kept busy by work and sobering up Maggie all the time. Finally after waiting for two weeks, I am sat back in Marlin Publishing House's waiting room, ready for my name to be called. After ten minutes of waiting my name was finally called and I slowly walked into Mr Rodgers office.

"Hello" I sang as I entered.

"Em, I'm glad to see you again, we have plenty of good news" he smiled as I took a seat opposite him.

I smiled as he took a few papers out of his leather binder and placed them in front of me.

"Ahhhh...ok so this is what the book cover will look like" he said as I took in the dark, mysterious and modern book cover. I fell in love with it straight away, i could finally picture my book.

"It's perfect" I breathed and smiled at the same time.

"I'm happy you like it, now we decided on a name, you will still be able to go to all the signings but your name will be different, purely because you are a new author and you have quite a common name" he laughed.

"Ok, when will it be published?" I asked not being able to contain my excitement.

"It already is" he laughed as all of my breath was taken from me "it will be in bookstores from tomorrow onwards" he smiled. I was close to fainting, I was an author at 17.

"I can't tell you how happy I am thank you so much" I panted as he chuckled.

"We will keep in contact with you to inform you of any upcoming events." He smiled as I rose from my chair, and made my way towards to door.

"This book is going to be a big one, I can feel it" he said as I opened the door and walked out, still amazed by the whole situation. as I drifted down the corridor deep in my elated thoughts, I bumped into someone. if you hadn't noticed already I bump into people a lot.

"Oh crap I'm sorry" I said as I bent down to pick up the scattered papers.

"It's no problem, I wasn't looking" she smiled. I looked at her name badge, it said Laura.

"Are you Laura from the Emails?" I asked as I handed her papers back.

"Yes, you must be Em" she said sweetly.

"Yeah, it's nice to meet you" I said as i sent her a smile.

"You to, er look I gotta go but here is my number, we should catch up sometime" she smiled as she searched her bag for a business card.

"Yeah sure" I said as I put the card in my back pocket and went to leave the Publishing House. I practically skipped down the pavement to my apartment. I unlocked the door and for once Maggie was dressed and looked alive.

"Heyyy" she sang as she walked into the small kitchen.

"Hi" I said completely and utterly confused. "you seem happy" I said as I flung my bag on the ground.

"I'm going to a party later, wanna come?" she asked pouring herself a glass of water.

"I..i dunno, I don't know anyone there" I stuttered.

"I will stay with you, come in it will be fun" she smiled from across the room.

"I.. er I guess" I said still completely shocked at her niceness.

"Ok, we leave in ten" she smiled as she smiled and disappeared into her room. I rushed to my room to change from my skinny jeans and top. I changed into a black skater dress and black converse. I had heavier makeup than usual and curled my hair. Once I was happy with my appearance I knocked on Maggie's door, it swung open to trace am her dressed in a red bodycon dress with her hair teased do it honestly looked like a birds nest.

"Ready?" I asked as I walked to the door.

"Yep, let's go" she said as she grabbed my arm and pulled me out the door. I don't know where this newfound kindness was coming from but I sure hoped it would stick around.

SURPRISE AGAIN!! hehe I said that I wasn't updating but my friend had 3G so ha.
