his footsteps were quiet against the wooden floor, pale feet practically shining against the dull, dark floorboards. the only sound heard was the muffled cries of emotional pain that couldn't be restrained any longer by pale hands and cherry-stained lips.

the weeps that fell out of his chrysanthemum-pink lips hurt donghyuck, who wrapped his arms around the sun-kissed, freckled shoulders that belonged to hyunwoo. the shaking of his shoulders didn't cease, the cries of emotional wounds stabbing at his insides.

donghyuck whispered sweet reassurances into his ear, breath warm against red ears. the cries tapered off into whimpers, that only held one question for him, and donghyuck already knew what it would be.

"wh-what am i to-to you?" renjun choked out through emotions clogged up his throat and thorns clogging his chest with sharp, tearing claws.

"you are the flower that brings my life from mediocre to incredible. you are the delicate petals that tickle my face in summer with sun-kissed freckles and flush cheeks. you are the beauty that comes from each being that god has created and has been so carefully moulded by golden hands," donghyuck whispered, voice nearly cracking from his own emotions, overwhelming him as he spoke.

"you are a gift to my life that lifts the bleary darkness that surrounds my soul and fills me with euphoria and makes me feel like i'm sixteen years old and makes my heart shake with feelings i didn't know were real. you are the beauty that i never deserved and the flower that i will never let die."

and as tears wet his dotted cheeks once more, cherry-stained lips met a freckled forehead with a gentle touch. donghyuck hugged his head close to his chest and protected him from the cruel world, a glass case for his delicate rose that he never wanted to wilt.
