"Never Forget You" — A Modern-Reddie One Shot

"Richie, what are you doing?" Eddie asks from the hospital bed as he flinches at his boyfriend's touch. He's been in the hospital for the past few months because of his cancer and Richie visits him everyday.

"Your mom." Richie replies with a chuckle at the end.

"I'm serious, 'Chee." Eddie rolls his eyes.

"I'm painting your nails." Richie replies as he starts to paint Eddie's toenails pink.

"It's gonna get ruined under the blanket." Eddie remarks.

"Why have you so negative these past few days, Eds?" Richie looks up and stares into his eyes.

"Don't call me that."

"Eddie, what's wrong?" Richie asks in concern.

Eddie sighs. "Come lay with me," He simply says. Richie didn't question it and got up to lay down on the bed next to him.

Once the two boys cuddled up and got comfortable, Eddie says, "I'm tried."

"Oh. Well, I can leave if you want to rest—"

"No, Richie, I don't want to sleep." Eddie cuts him off.

"Why not?" Richie questions.

"Because what if I don't wake up?" Eddie looks up at him with teary eyes. "I'm so tired, I feel weak. I don't want to leave you."

"Don't worry, Eddie. I'll be right here with you." Richie intertwines his hand with Eddie's.

"I don't want to leave you." Eddie repeats. Richie pecks him on the lips.

"You will always be in my heart. You'll never leave me." Richie softly smiles at him.

"Promise?" Eddie says.

"I promise," Richie replies. "Now, please get some rest. I don't want you getting tired."

"But—"

"Eddie..." Richie raises his eyebrow. Eddie sighs in defeat and falls asleep on Richies chest.

"I will never break that promise. You will always be in my heart. I never forget that day and I will most certainly never forget you,"

Richie looks at his boyfriend's grave one more time before wiping his tears away. "I love you, Eds. I will forever love you."
