I thought I'd never stop liking Ryan Fray, it had been almost 4 years and I couldn't get him out of my head. I always thought I'd end up with him, but reality came crashing down on me, and it hit hard.
School had just come back from break, it was Friday and I was eating lunch with my friends, catching up on what happened over the holidays. I was enjoying my apple when I saw his arm draped around Emily's shoulders.
I choked.
My friends gave me a sympathetic smile, and for a second Ryan and I made eye contact. I knew in that moment that I had to get over him, but I didn't how.
I'd spent the last 4 years in love with him, I liked to think I was somewhat secret about this crush, but I was far from it.
My friend Maddie tapped my shoulder, pulling me back into reality. "Ella I'm so sorry, I know how much you like him, I didn't think you would've wanted to know." She says.
I advert my attention back to Maddie, shaking my head. "I don't see why you're sorry, I stopped liking him years ago!" I plea, but I know Maddie knows me too well, and she just sighs in return.
"Look El, I know you didn't get invited to Zoe's party tonight, but I can plus one you!" She says enthusiastically. "We haven't had a night out in ages, lets party and get your mind off that boy."
I glance back over to Ryan and Emily who are laughing with each other, looking so happy together.
I turn Maddie, "Fine, I'll go." I needed to go to this party, to get over Ryan for good. "Can you send me the details?"
I swear when I looked at Maddie she could've burst from how excited she is, I think she was just as shocked as I was that I agreed so easily.

I was racing around the house, frantically trying to find anything I could wear.
It's like when anything important finally comes around, all of my clothes are in the wash, and the ones that aren't I would never be caught dead in.
Tonight was one of those nights.
After texting Maddie to see if she could lend me a top, I settle for a pair of my cleanest black skinny jeans and a black teddy bear jacket.
I hear the door bell ring and let Maddie in. She hands over a floral off-the-shoulder top, to which I hurriedly put on.
"El I can't believe how lazy you truly are. You may be able to hand in all your work on time, but when it comes to anything else you're hopeless." She laughs. I nod in agreement because I know it's my downfall.
"Maddie at least I actually do my work, so I think I'm allowed to be lazy somewhere. Nobody's perfect." We both laugh together, we don't sing the song, but we acknowledge the reference I made.
Between chuckles Maddie tells me to get ready. I grab my vans, my earrings that I'm changing as we leave and yell goodbye to my parents.
Closing the door behind me I see Maddie's mum behind the steering wheel. She yells out "You look as gorgeous as ever Ella!"
While jumping into the backseat I blush at her comments, "Laura look at you, you're the only one that's gorgeous here! Maddie I can't believe you missed out on those genes, you unfortunate child."
I receive a lighthearted smack back from Maddie.
"Don't you worry Ella, she's just jealous that we have the looks and she doesn't." Maddie's mother Laura chuckles.
"I can't believe you're on her side Mum!" Through some muttered apologies, Laura starts the car and heads off to Zoe's party.
We arrive outside the house, hearing muffled chatter and the sound of music audible from the street. Saying goodbye to Laura, the two of us head towards the house.
What I didn't know is that this party would change everything for me.
