I picked at my dinner. It's been 2 months since Encre disappeared. After the first month, Captain Eterna of the Town Guard sent a scout to go look for him. The scout never came back. Father and several others blamed vampires, but Dad wasn't entirely sure. I looked up from my plate at the clock. 7 PM. I pushed my chair back and stood.
"May I be excused?" I asked quietly. Father looked over at me.
"You haven't even touched your food, Y/N!" He exclaimed.
"Go." Dad whispered. Father glanced at him. I cleaned m plate and put it away. Walking to the front door, I called back to my parents.
"I'm going out."
"Stay out no later than 8, and be safe." Father called back. I walked outside and shut th door behind me. I strolled down the path as I thought. I missed Encre. We would often talk, and I would help him run his shop and paint with him. While he was...gone, I took care of it so Encre's shop wouldn't go out of buisness. Ever since Encre went missing, Dad has been quiet and kept to himself which was very unusual and quite worrying. Encre and I were close, but to Dad he was like a brother. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked around. I was at the edge of The Forbidden Forest.
"I should head back. Father would have a come-apart if he knew where I was right now." I muttered. I saw a figure in the midst of the trees, and I blinked. It was gone.
"I think I am losing my mind..." I sighed, and walked back home. I hope Encre shows up soon, both for my sake and Dad's.
*le tem skip to next morning*
I woke up to knocking on my door. Dad stepped in, fully dressed in his armor and carrying a little sack of necessities.

"Where are you going to, Dad?" I questioned, sitting up in bed.
"I spoke with Eterna last night, and we both agree. I will be the next guard sent to search." He said, his voice devoid of emotion. I threw off the quilt and stood up.
"Are you going alone?" I asked. He slightly nodded. I walked over to him.
"Where will you search? You know it's not safe to search alone!" I said.
"The Forbidden Forest. There is no other location that has already been checked. I leave in twenty minutes." He told me. I hugged him tightly.
"Promise me you'll come back. You have to." I was on the verge of tears. Anyone who entered the forest was never heard from again, that's why Father did not like me near it.
"I wil try my best." He promised. I nodded and let go.
"Goodbye Dad. I love you." I said.
"Goodbye, Y/N." He smiled softly and left. I quickly got dressed and went to the dining room. Father was getting ready to leave for work.

He glanced over at me.
"Morning Y/N. Will you be heading to open the shop?" He asked.
"Morning, and yes I will be." I told him.
"I must leave for work. Take care of yourself." Father smiled before leaving. I was left alone.
Azure's POV ((unexpected, eh?))
I stood at the edge of the forest. This was it. I would be going to retrieve my best friend Encre and another guardsman. I took a deep breath and entered. It was dark, and I could hear the calls of animals.
I walked for an hour or two, occasionally calling Encre's name. Something to my left rustled. I drew my sword.
"Who is there? Show yourself!" I said, feigning confidence. I heard a deep chuckle.
"Cocky, are we? If that is what you wish." A figure stepped into my line of sight, revealing himself from the shadows. I gasped.
"A vampire..." I whispered. He approached me.
"Hmm. A guard, no doubt sent to retrieve the painter and the other lost one. Such a shame you will not live to see them again." He said, his fangs gleaming in the dim light. I gripped my sword tighter. He advanced, but stopped at arms length, batting away my weapon like it was little more than a toy. I backed up against a tree and fumbled for my dagger.
"You know, it astonished me when the two mortals were kept as pets by my comrades. I wonder if you would be worth the trouble." He contemplated.
"They-they are...alive?" I asked. It was quite shocking that I was not yet dead. He smiled.
"Why yes they are. Do you know them?" He asked. I nodded, unsure of his intentions. He seemed to be lost in thought before he grabbed my arm.
"Then I am sure the painter will be pleased to see you once more." He said, before taking me off to who knows where.
