“Where to?” I ask her as she bombs the car down the street.
“Choose an option, 1, 2 or 3?”
“3.” I answer; it’s a completely odd number, prime too.
“Okay, a warm-up. One of the small bars in the city.”
“Okay, cool.” I’m thinking I shouldn’t be so keen. I feel uncharacteristically excited and relaxed. I don’t actually think I’m actually in control of myself, emotionally or otherwise.
Camilla pulls up outside of a- as she’d promised- small bar.
“Okay? Ready to start the night?”
It’s seven o’clock and I was almost killed today. “Yes I’m fine, this is going to be a great night!”
“Okay, let’s get started, the first rounds on Leo, oh I almost forgot every round’s on him. He gave me his credit card!” Camilla laughs and I join her.
“Seriously he’ll regret that in the morning!” I exclaim once the laughing has subsided.
We walk into the surprisingly quiet bar, and Camilla orders a round of vodka shots.
“We’ll pay at the end.” Camilla smiles at the barman, he relaxes automatically from his stiff stance.
“That’s fine. If you would like anything else, feel free to ask.” The barman is stupefied; he staggers backwards staring at Camilla, looking like he’s under some sort of influence.
“Thank you, I will ask you if I need anything.” She smiles and sits down on the counter stool, I sit beside her. The shots are in a line, three each.
“Oh, just wait a minute.” Raising her index finger up at me, she signals to stop as, I lift the shot glass. She takes a small sachet from the inside of her stiletto; it’s a powder, ash-silver in color. “A little extra fun!” She says with a twinkle in her eye. The barman isn’t even fazed by Camilla’s actions.
“I don’t think so.” I’m stunned. Do I look like a druggie?
“No you don’t.” She answers my unanswered question. “I just find that it helps the night!”
“What is it?”
“What some call Ashes To Ashes; others call it Fairy Dust, Trip Delight, Sparkle, and Touched. Loads of names for the same thing. ‘Druggies’ don’t touch this stuff, it’s exclusive; the purchaser needs to know the right people or let me rephrase be the right person. The effects are strange; it makes an individual like my kind for an amount of time. I wouldn’t say there are many-if any- negative side effects. So do you want some or not? I am anyway, so you joining me?”
