Dear Me,
Life has thrown you more curveballs than should be allowed. You've loved, you've lost, had your heart shattered, your world repeatedly rattled, your hopes built only to be demolished. But you're still standing.
The world is a terrifyingly wonderful place. It can be bad. It can be good. It can change the way you look at life, at love, at hope. While those things might fall under its spell, never let it change you. While the outside might be different at times, please fight to keep your heart the same.
I'm writing you this letter because you need it.
Somewhere along the rocky path, you dropped the key to your heart. You lost the ability to let love in. To be loved. Bad experiences have hardened your heart and suddenly finding love didn't seem so important. But it is. The fall is sometimes the best part.
For right now, you need to love yourself. Love the scars, scabs, curves, rolls, AMAZING CALVES, stubby nails, round cheeks, monstrous laugh. All of it. Love everything about you because it is all wonderful. You forget sometimes. So whenever you need to remember, read this. You'll find the world gets a bit brighter when you see that the only love you were searching for was from your own heart.
You do not need anyone to validate your existence. I know sometimes it feels like you're not appreciated, or you feel alone, but you never are. People will come and go from your life, and it might be sad at times, but the world will continue to turn. You will see.
Right now is a critical point in time. You're 21. You've made friends, and you have lost them. The fakes have revealed themselves and melted away. Though you might have thought those connections to be everlasting, they weren't. And there's nothing wrong with that. Some people are only meant to be in specific moments of our lives for a certain amount of time. When they've served their purpose, Life moves them along so you can find the next ones meant to help you on your way.
Take the memories you've made and enjoy them. It's alright to smile, just as it's ok to laugh, to cry, to remember, and to struggle.
Life will never stop throwing you curveballs, but the people you have with you at this point in time have trained you well enough to know to choke up on the bat and not be afraid to swing. The fear of striking out is normal, but when you finally do decide to swing, you increase your chances of hitting the ball out of the park. Every outcome is unknown, and the unknown is scary. Not knowing, however, can be the start of an unforgettable adventure. Never be afraid of not knowing, but never stop looking for the answers.
Live strong, live loud, live hard, live true, live proud. Laugh. Love. LIVE.
The One And Only,
Me
P.S. Who says you can't write yourself a love letter? ;)
