I sat on the edge of the small bridge, my toes dangling into the cool water.
I looked over the small creek, sipping from the bottle in my hand. The fishs looked so peaceful, gracefully swimming around my toes, as if they belonged there. But that couldnt be true. I didn't belong anywhere.
I sighed, and lay back on the cold wood. I stared up at the blue sky, not a cloud in sight. A eagle soared above my head. Then dove into the grass just past my sight. Probably saw a mouse or something. I took a deep breath. The smell of grass, lilies, and alcohol filled my nose. I sat up and took another sip of my drink. It burned my throat. I set it back down.
A clang from the glass on wood broke the silence, and the fish darted away from my feet, as if finally realizing that I was an intruder. I glanced into the water again. My face stared back at me, hazel eyes filled with confusion and sadness. My face was nothing special, although some girls told me that I as pretty. I didn't understand why. I was average, below average. Nothing special. I lay back down, and closed my eyes. The silence filled my ears with a loud ringing noise, but I barely noticed. I was used to silence, and being alone.
My name is Camryn.

I slowly stood up, gently relaxing my bruised muscles from the stiff position they were in. I let out a soft groan as a particularly sore muscle in my back stretched out. I rolled my head on my neck, trying to make it less tense.
I looked around at my serene getaway. Everything was so still, do calm, so perfect. Why couldn't all of my lid be like this? So beautiful and amazing?
I sighed. I turned away to walk home, but as I put weight onto my right leg, a pain shot up my leg. I let out a hiss of pain, and slowly sat down onto the bridge again. My fingers gently probed my ankle, assessing the damage. I hissed again when my fingers brushed against an extremely sensetive area. There was no way I was going to be able to walk home like this.
I quickly pulled my phone out of my back pocket.
I punched in a number that I had memorized by heart for many years. I waited impatiently as the phone rang. Finally, someone picked up. "...Hello?" A familiar voice filled the line. I internally groaned.
"Hi Steven. Can you give Summer the phone?"
"What's the magic word?"
I growled. "Please" My voice was harsher than I intended it to be, but I was beyond caring
"Well, it was actually 'Steven is a sex God,' but since you asked nicely..." His sarcastic tone was making my blood boil. I never understood why, but Steven and I never got along well. He always found some to piss me off, and then I'd retaliate by playing some prank on him, or telling his girlfriend, Samantha, some embarrassing story about something idiotic he did when we were kids.
"Dammit Steven! Would you please just shut the hell up and give Summer the phone?!"
"Fine, fine. Don't get your panties in a twist."
I heard a soft noise as Steven muffled the speaker with his hand. "Summer, Camryn's on the line!"
"Thanks Sev! I got it." I heard he phone being passed from one hand to another, and the sound of heavy breathing filled my ears.
"Sorry Cam. I was running to try and get the phone before Sev said anything weird...or perverted." Disgust filled her voice.
I couldn't help but smile at my best friend's innocence. She and her brother were complete opposites. Sarah, with her wavy, dark brown hair, pale skin, and light blue eyes, resembled a vampire, more than anything else. She was the most naive person I knew, with even the slightest mention of something sexual causing her cheeks to flame. She was the sweetest person you could ever know, and she put everybody's well being before her own. On the other hand, Steven was a blonde, brown eyed surfer-boy, and according to other girls, he was 'drool worthy' and 'eye candy'. Not my words. To me, he just the annoying older brother I never had. He was always cracking 'That's What She Said' jokes, and making every little situation perverted. But although he acted like a douche and a player, he cared about Samantha more than anything. I could see that by the way he looked at her whenever she was in the same room.
I wouldn't have either of them any other way. Their parents treated me like I was their own. They were like the family I wished I could've had.
A few moments passed as Summer caught her breath. "So, what's up?"
Her question wiped the smile of my face as I remembered the reason for calling her.
"Um... I need you to pick me up."
A pause. "Is it him again?" her voice murmered, her voice full of sadness for me. I hated making her feel this way. But she was the only one who could help me.
"Yeah."
"Where are you? Tell your parents my mom invites you over for dinner. You can tell me about it at my house."
"I'm at the bridge." Summer knew what I meant. That was where I always went.
"Are you okay?" Her voice was laced with worry and concern.
"...No."
"Just hang tight, I'll be there in five."
After she hung up, I pressed a set of buttons, and held the phone against my ear, waiting for someone to pick up.
"Hello?" I could irritation in the nasally voice of my crazy bitch of a step-sister.
"Camilla. Put Stella or Dad on the phone, I don't care which."
"What if I don't want to?" I could imagine her evilly smirking, while she twirled her red hair around her perfectly manicured finger while her brown eyes sparkle in glee by making me miserable or angry. I'd seen that look many times. Especially when she does something bad and then blames it on me. And Mom and Dad believe her. They would never suspect that their 'perfect little daughter' could ever do something bad.
But she does all the time. And every time she gets off scot free, while I get grounded for a week or have my phone take away.
"I'll tell Stella and Dad about the time you had sex with that college boy from East in their bed."
In my mind, Camilla's evil smirk turned into a shocked 'o' and her finger stopped, mid twirl.
After a few moments, which was probably because she was to surprised to respond to my blunt response.
"You wouldn't."
"Try me."
"Ugh. I hate you."
"Love you too, sissy dear."
"MOM! CAMRYN'S ON THE PHONE!" I yanked the phone away from my ear as her shrill shriek rang in my ear.
I swear, that girl was related to a banshee.
"...What?" my step-mothers annoyed voice asked me.
"Hold on a second, I can barely hear you because your daughter's screech is still ringing in my ears."
"Don't insult my daughter."
I smirked. It was so much fun to make Stella angry.
"Summer's mom invited me over for dinner, Stella, so that's where I'm going to be until 9 or something."
"Whatever." I heard a click as she hung up.
I shoved the phone back into my pocket, as I lay back again on the cold wood.
The sky stared back at me, a beautiful blue without a single cloud in sight. If only very day was like this.
But that wouldn't happen. A cloud would come and rain on all of the happiness, and leave despair and dread.
That's how it always was.
