Chapter 4 - Tornado

Since we've been with the group I've learned a lot about them. Warran and Garnett were lieutenants of the national guard pre z. Addy and Mack have been together since day one. Doc is a fan of weed and has a good sense of humour and Murphy is an ass who is pretty self centred although I have gotten to know him and he is a lil nicer to me than the rest, I don't know why.

Then there's 10k. I know little to nothing about him because I try to avoid him. I don't even want to look at him. It's nothing personal it's just every time I look at him I'm reminded of Brian and memories start flowing in.

My eyes start to flutter open to see a dusty creme ceiling. I sit up and glance toward the kitchen to see Warran and Garnett talking about citizen Z and how he said something about a tornado. Warran notices that I'm awake and smiles

"Good morning sleepin' beauty" she says as she walks over to me and hands me coffee. I'm guessing the previous owners had coffee still in their cabinets. I chuckle and graciously accepted the cup. I look at my surroundings before I stood up.

I see Doc, Murphy and Molly playing some sort of card game, and I can hear Addy and Mack laughing outside. I got up and walked over to Warran and Garnett who were still talking about Citizen Z.

"Anything new?" I ask as I sat down drinking my coffee.
"CZ keeps talking about a tornado heading out way and apparently it's coming down our path fast" Garnett replys

"Yeah and we don't have enough time or fuel to outrun it" Warran adds as she pour herself another cup of coffee. I look outside and see a few dark grey clouds approaching.
"What's the plan then" I ask
"Warrans old house is close to here and there's a basement so we were thinking about going there" she looks resentful. I don't blame her though.

"Cool alright I'll pack up my stuff" I said gulping the last of coffee that was in my cup. It burned my throat but I didn't really care. I turn around and see 10k sitting in a chair facing me, he didn't notice me as he seemed to be invested in his magazine. I quickly sat down on the couch as I grabbed my bag and started putting my stuff in. Thankful that he didn't try start a conversation with me I stood up and headed to the table and sat with beside Molly.

Doc dealt me in and we started playing go fish. After 3 rounds of go fish and me winning like a boss, Garnett that we're leaving in five so we pack up the game and me and Molly head to the car.

I throw my bag in the bed of the truck as well as Mollys. I was about to jump in when I see Molly looking up at the sky. "I really we get to Warrans old place before we get caught in this" she said with concern. I hear ya girl.

We pull up at Warrans house as the weather starts to get a little crazy. I can barely hear anything over the wind. We all huddle on the front deck while Mack tries to bust down the door. Warran pulls out a key from under the doormat and we all pour inside.

Addy and Mack immediately tread upstairs and me, Molly and 10k head to the right side of the house where the bathroom garage  spare bedroom and dining room are.

"Clear" I whisper yell from the bathroom and dining area. "It's clear over here too" 10k adds from the spare bedroom. We join the group again and talk strategys. "We need a medkit" addy says looking down at her mild injury on her thigh. "Okay" Warran agrees. "Garnett and I will head down to the fire station my husband worked at, there should be a medkit in there, but there is also a few stores we gotta check." "Alissa and 10k you think you two can handle it.?" Garnett asks. I nod and so does he.

Roberta gives us directions and we head out the door. By the time we get to a small shop the weather is out of control. It looks like the tornado will be here any minute now. 10k does a quick search while I keep watch. I notify 10k that we should get going to another store and we run out. The closest store is a block away and we definitely ain't going to get there in time, 10k seems to know that too. I look behind me and yell over the wind blowing in my ears "Look!" the tornado it's right behind us ripping up the ground. 10k points to a car and runs towards it. I do the same and jump into the drivers side. He slams the door just as we see the tornado heading straight for us.

Without thinking I hold onto his thigh out of fear and squeeze my eyes shut. I want this to be over. I feel the car flip over and I scream pushing my hands on the roof trying to make sure I don't fall out of the seat.

It feels like forever until the storm passes. I open my eyes and look over at 10k who is to pulling himself out from an upside window. I try to do the same but I'm not strong enough. I see 10k walk around to my side and sticks his hand out. I grab it and he pulls me out. "You good?" He asks still holding on to my waist as I brush the dirt on myself. "I think so, you?" I repsonds "yeah. Let's head back" i agree and we jog back to the house.
