“Mum, do I have to come?” I groaned, while buttering my toast. Today was the day of mum’s first auditions for a new boyband. She’s a manager, you see, she put together the Saturdays, and now she wants a boyband. I guess it was a pretty cool job to be honest, but I usually have to get dragged around with her, which I hate.

“Yes Lola, you don’t have a choice.” She sighed. There was no point talking back. The auditions this time were for 16 and over, but obviously not too over, I guessed about late twenties was the maximum. Polishing off the last few crumbs on my plate, I placed it in the dishwasher and bounced upstairs to get ready. I searched in my wardrobe for something to wear, not that I wanted to make an effort, but you never know. I settled for some tiny shorts, if they can be called shorts, a plain blue vest and my topshop hoodie. Carefully I applied the normal make up, just natural bits, nothing over the top. With ten minutes to spare I unplugged my Blackberry from it’s charger and checked for any new bbms. Broadcast, broadcast, don’t like you, Reece! Reece had been my best friend since nursery, we’d grown up together. Yes we had had our disagreements, but I always say that if you got through a fight, it just proves you have a strong friendship. I do have friends that are girls, but I’d choose Reece over them any day. ‘Morning xxxx’ he said. I smiled, and replied instantly, ‘Heey! Mum’s making me go to some more of her auditions todayLxxxx’. “LOLA, COME ON WE HAVE TO GO!” Mum yelled up the stairs, impatiently. Shoving my phone into my pocket, I raced down the stairs and into the car. First stop, London!

The first few boys had been on, and I could tell Mum hadn’t been impressed. Not surprised to be  fair, none of them were anything special.

“Nathan Sykes?” She called from her chair just infront of the stage. A boy, much younger than the others, probably about my age, walked up the stairs and stood dead centre.

“Hi, I’m Nathan Sykes and I’m 16.” He smiled at Mum, then his eyes flickered to me and he winked. The opening bars filled the room and he began to sing. I was taken aback by the power of his voice. It was so beautiful. He closed the sing with perfection and waited for feedback.

“Wow Nathan, I wasn’t expecting that! You have great tone! An email will be sent to you when I’ve made my decision.” Mum complimented him. I was still applauding, along with everyone else in the hall. Eventually the claps died down and Mum called the next boy up on stage. My throat reasonably dry, I walked off the find a drink. Just in front of me at the water fountain was the boy who had just sung.

“Nathan, right?” I asked. The sound of another voice seemed to shock him.

“Yeah, how did you know?” He asked, smiling at me.

“I just saw you sing, you were so good! I’m Lola, Jayne Collins is my mum.. well she adopted me.” I said, trailing off at the end. I never  tell anyone that! Only Reece knew, so why was I telling him?

“Oh, it’s so nice to meet you then, I was so nervous up there,” He confided in me.

“It didn’t show! You’ve been the best so far, you have nothing to worry about.” I promised him.

“Haha, thanks! I have to go get the train back to Gloucester, but hopefully I’ll be seeing you again soon?” He smiled at me.

“Yeah sure, good luck!” I said, waving as he walked off. His eyes. Oh my god his hair. And his smile. No Lola. Not after last time, I reminded myself.

The auditions finally came to an end, but no one had been as talented as Nathan. I climbed into the car and took the list of boys from Mum.

“Nathan was good, wasn’t he?” I said, he had been on my mind since our little encounter at the fountain.

“Yeah, most of them were from Sylvia Young, talented bunch but he did stick out.” She replied. “He said he was from Gloucester, I think.” I mumbled.

“How would you know then missy?” She said, suddenly interested.

“Oh, just overheard him talking to someone.” I lied. The whole way back I had him on my mind. I couldn’t decide whether to tell Reece about him or not, but I finally settled on telling him tomorrow at Thorpe Park. When we arrived home I went straight up to bed, it had been a long day and I knew it was going to be an early start tomorrow too.

The doorbell rang nice and early, just as I had finished getting changed. It was Reece. As i answered he waved goodbye to his mum and I invited him in.

“I’ll be two minutes.” I said as I ran back upstairs to get my bag sorted. An hour later we were on the train, off to Thorpe.

“So, who’s this mystery boy you’ve been desparate to tell me about then?” Reece said, poking me in the ribs.

“Ow!” I cried, “And okay, he was at mum’s audition thing yesterday, and I don’t know, he was just different from any other guy I’ve met.” I said, knowing it sounded soppy.

“Different from me?” He joked, fluttering his eyelashes. I punched him lightly on the arm.

“You’re like my brother! He was just so easy to talk to, and he had an amazing voice too!” I said, thinking of our little chat.

“Oh, Robbie Williams in the making.” Reece said, sarcastically.

“Oh la di da.” I said, and that was the end of that.

My heart was pumping as we climbed off stealth, I’d had a tight hold on Reeces hand all the way through it, which he continued to take this piss out of.

“Come on, let’s get a drink.” I said, dragging him to the snack bar. Just in front was a couple of boys, winding up the one in the middle.

“Oh Lola, I love you Lola, see you soon Lola!” They mimicked. Obviously it was a different lola, but it was beginning to irritate me

“Whatever.” A familiar voice shook it off, and turned around holding a bottle of coke.

“Nathan?” I gasped, shocked.

“Lola, hey!” He said, choking on his coke and ignoring his friends who were smirking behind him.
