It was the next stage of the audition process, and I had decided to tag along, for one reason or another. Each ‘contestant’ – I suppose you could call them, had to sing one song solo, then they had an hours break when my mum and her colleagues would choose the ones who would go on, and the ones to send home, then finally the remaining boys would be grouped and set a song to learn. This was only one area of where mum had planned to cover; the same process would be repeated again and again for the others. A number of boys had sung before mum called out the name I had been longing to hear. “Nathan Sykes?” He stepped forward, his eyes darting around the room until they found me. He mouthed a quick ‘Hey,’ before the opening bars began. His voice was literally breathtaking. As soon as his song finished, he was dismissed and stumbled off the stage.

“Nath, wait!” I called, running after him. Tears were streaming down his face. “What’s wrong?!” I gasped.

“I messed up. That’s my career gone.” He managed between silent cries.

“No way did you mess up, you’re the most talented person there! Look at me!” I orded, his eyes weakly looking straight into mine. “You have NOTHING to worry about.” I said sternly. He just shrugged and pulled me in for a long hug. He was taller than I was, but I’ve always been short for my age, much to my friend’s amusement. “I have to go.” I whispered, retreating from the hug and turned away. “Good luck, but you won’t need it.” I called over my shoulder, making my way back to the hall where only my mum and 4 other adults, trying to make a decision.

“He’s talented, but maybe he’s too young.” One voice said, who could they be talking about?

“I agree, it could be too early to handle the fame, if the band does well.” Mum piped up. “Well that’s our decision made, we put him through,” pausing to point at one name, “And send him home.” They all nodded in agreement.

“Let’s get the boys in then!” A man stood at the door said, and stepped outside to round everyone up. One by one they joined the rows stood neatly in front of the stage. I spotted Nath somewhere near the back, looking nervously at his shoes. When he looked up I gave him my best ‘You’ll be fine’ look, and took a seat at the table.

“First a list of the boys going home will be read, if you would please leave after all names have been called and make your way out the back door.” Mum began.

Nathan POV

I looked around as more and more names were called out. The look of disappointment, embarrassment and plain sadness on some of their faces was awful.

“Nathan Sykes.” I voice called out. The boy next to me nudged me, and I stared upwards, avoiding eye contact with anyone and everyone. Especially not Lola. I heard her voice shout something but I couldn’t focus at all, I think she said something along the lines of “This is a huge joke now.”  I blinked back the tears, and after what felt like a millennium we were dismissed. No one said a word as the irrelevant ones walked out. I couldn’t go home and face my family yet, so I just sat on a wall, watching the world go by.

Lola POV

I could feel my anger building up inside me. This was so stupid! Mum even said herself at his first audition that he was the most talented one there! I stood up, throwing the chair half way across the room and stormed out. As I slammed the door behind me I noticed someone sat on the wall chuckling at me. “Shorty’s got a big temper!” A voice I knew and loved joked. I went and sat on the wall next to Nathan, serious again.

“I’m really sorry.” I said, placing my hand comfortabley on his leg. He looked down and saw it, making no effort to remove my hand.

“You have nothing to be sorry for.” He replied, refusing to make eye contact. How he was wrong. Id made him believe he had this in the bag, it was probably more my fault than his. The person I’d walked in on mum and her colleagues talking about, was Nathan.

“I’m still sorry.” I said, seriously. He began to laugh, only at first then it became infectious, and both of us had tears of laughter rolling down our cheeks. I don’t think either of even knew why we were laughing, which made it funnier.

“Nathan Sykes?” A stern voice interrupted our fists of laughter. “You’re wanted inside, you too Miss Collins.” I’d never been called that before. Throwing Nathan a look to see if he knew what was goin on, but he just shrugged and I followed him in.

“We’ve re-thought our decision of sending you home, as long as you try your very best from here on out.” The same, uptight man said. Nathan looked at me.

“Thank you so much!” He shrieked with excitement like a young boy.

“Congratulations!” I screamed, and he picked me up, spinning me around and out the door. “See, Im always right!” I laughed as he put me down and tickled me. “Stop, please Nathan stop!” I gasped between giggles.

“Only if you say..” He paused, wondering what to suggest. “You have to say Nathan is the most amazing person in the whole world, he is always right and I love him.”

“Okay okay!  Nathan is the most amazing person in the whole world, he is always right and I love him! Now stop!” I shrieked. He let go of me and helped me up. The next minute we spent in comfortable silence, I examined his beautiful face. I was falling so fast for him.

Nathan POV

How could anyone not love her. She was beautiful, funny, everything. I slowly lent in, our noses bumping eachother and then finally our lips crashed together.
