Nathan POV

“I can’t believe it!” She said. The wind was making her hair fly in all directions but it didn’t make any difference. She was still beautiful.

“Neither can I, what are you going here?” I asked, realising how stupid it sounded once the words left my mouth, what a ridiculous question.

“Just here with;” She paused and turned her head, beckoning someone over. “Here with Reece!” She grinned at me, introducing a boy about my height, blonde hair covering his eyebrows and bright blue eyes. My heart sunk.

“Alright mate.” I muttered, holding out my hand for him to shake. My friendly act wasn’t returned. Awkwardly I out my hand down, seeing the frown spread across Lola’s face. “So I heard back from your mum!” I continued, trying to block out the sniggers from behind me.

“Oh yeah, you got through the next stage, right?” She replied, checking her watch as if she had somewhere to be.

“Yeah! You gonna be there then?” I said, taking a sip of my drink.

“Mm, depends, maybe!” Glancing at her watch again. “Nath, I have to go, but I’ll hopefully see you-”  I cut her short.

“I’ll get your number or something?” I asked, knowing my cheeks were flushed.

“Yeah sure!” She beamed at me, “Here just type it in.” Lola handed me her phone and I added myself in.

“See you soon, Ill text you!” I smiled, waving as she turned away with Reece. I have to say I was confused. This Reece guy didn’t look overjoyed to see me, or to happy that I’d asked for her number. Maybe she was just being polite, he probably was her boyfriend.

“Oi, loverboy, coming on saw?” James nudged me in the ribs, jogging me out of thought. I decided to forget about her, this career meant the world to me and I wasn’t going to let a girl ruin it.

“Yeah,” I grunted, kicking him as payback, and followed them to join the queue.

Lola POV

“Bit harsh of you, wasn’t it?” I muttered as Reece and I wandered away from Nathan and his friends. It sort of shocked me the way Reece was acting since I’d met Nathan, it just wasn’t him.

“Nope.” He replied, sullenly. What was going on?

“If you say so, I’m so glad you got to meet him though, what did you think?” I smiled enthusiastically; it meant alot to know what Reece thought.

“S’alright,” He replied. Something was definitely wrong.

“Didn’t you like him then? I thought he was amazing! What’s up with you today?” I asked persistently. He was fine until we bumped into Nathan.

“Jesus Lola, why can’t you shut up about that sloth for just a minute?” He retorted, taking me by surprise. I could feel the tears brimming in my eyes, and Reece noticed too. “Look I’m sorry, I just don’t want the whole trip back to be ‘Nathan this, Nathan that’ can’t we talk about something else?” He mimicked. I was hurt, and he knew it, but I just agreed to it. The whole journey back we talked about this and that, but he knew I was upset, and I knew him well enough that something was up.

***

“Lola, we were supposed to be on our way to Bolton ten minutes ago, get a move on!” Mum screamed up the stairs, agitated.

“Sorry,” I mumbled, shoving my phone in my pocket. Just as I did, it beeped. ‘Hey, it’s Nathan xxxxx’ I smiled sheepishly at my phone and typed a quick ‘Heey xxxxx’ before Mum was yelling up again. I legged it out the front door and strapped in faster than you can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocous. Haha. By the time we arrived at the hall there were already a line of boys waiting. I felt mum’s hand on my shoulder as she pushed her way to the front and walked in. On the way I could hear whispers of: “That’s her!” “It’s Jayne, be quiet!” “Oh my god I’m nervous!” and all that. I tried to put myself in one of their shoes. This audition could be the first step to fame.

It was about 20 acts in when Tom stepped on the stage. “Hi, I’m Tom Parker.” He said shakily, with a grin. “Take it away Tom.” Mum replied. When he started to sing, the whole room fell silent. He had this voice that made you feel how he felt, like all his feelings had been broken down into lyrics. It was an amazing performance, shown by a standing ovation while he walked out. Soon enough, silence fell, only to be broken again by the beep of my phone. “Sorry!” I exclaimed and stepped outside. It was Nathan. ‘You okay?xxxxx’ He asked. I smiled again. ‘yeah, hbu?xxxx’ I replied. I got an answer almost instantly. ‘Just thinking xxxxx’ I knew he wanted me to ask what about, so I did. ‘you..xxxxxx’ He replied. My cheeks burned, and I couldn’t stop smiling when I walked back inside.

“Someone’s happy,” Mum laughed at my toothy grin. I just nodded, staring at my phone. “Let me see!” She giggled, trying to snatch my phone off me.

“No way!” I laughed, hiding it safely in the pocket furthest from her.

“Well I’m ready to go if you are?” She said, tidying up the last few pieces of paper strewn across the table. As we sat down in the car my phone beeped again. Doing my best to shield the screen, hidden from prying eyes, i glanced down and read what it said. ’Next audition in a week, be my good luck charm?xxxx’ I smiled again. ‘Of course;-)xxxxx’ I replied.
