Annie's P.O.V
I heard a loud gasp interrupt the silence from the room next to me. Alex's room. She must have had a bad dream or something. I hadn't fallen asleep yet. My body's too used to staying awake night after night in search of targets. I've been accustomed to that life. Yet, everyday, my eyes drooped further, my energy lacked, and I ached for sleep. I decided to check out what had bothered Alex.
Stepping into the hallway, a breeze welcomed my bare legs. Shivering, I quickly and quietly tip toed into her room to see her sitting up in the bed, her head in her hands. Her body was quivering just a little, and from what I could see of her face, it was paler than usual. She wore a tanktop and shorts, just like most of the people in the house.
"You okay?" I asked, startling her. She jumped a little, smoothing out her comforter on her lap.
"Fine," she replied, distant. I didn't expect her to tell me anything. Although we were sisters, we had only just met. It would take time to gain the trust. I wasn't even sure that I could trust her. She was too careless, clumsy, still new in the field of defense. She was a newbie, and I would have to train her. She would probably want Leo to train her, but with their relationship, they would probably just make out instead. That's definitely training, right? I would have to step in a little.
"You don't look okay. Bad dream?" I asked, sitting next to her, rubbing her back a little in hopes of comforting her enough to spill what she had dreamed. I could feel her recoil at the feeling, but ease up after a second.
"Yeah, but it's nothing. I'm fine. Don't worry about it." She remained distant, not making any sort of attempt at eye contact. She kept her head down, her eyes glued to the small hole in her comforter.
"You sure? I wouldn't mind hearing it. Talking could help you."
"I'm fine!" She urged, standing up and trudging out of the room. Well then. That seemed successful. One step closer to family. I might as well go change and get ready for the tourist filled day ahead of us. We still hadn't seen everything, and our group LOVES to walk around and annoy the heck out of people. Especially Kyle. That boy is just a bomb waiting to blow up on the closest crowd. The worst thing that he's done is mooned a kid, and I'm sort of eager to see what comes today.
I got dressed into my boots, black overcoat and dark pants, and walked to the kitchen, hearing voices as I arrived. Kyle and Alex were in the kitchen, Alex holding a coffee cup tight in her hands, and Kyle taking a bite of a crossiant. Their talking ceased when I entered the room. Usual. No one trusted me here. I was the assassin, the murderer, the thief. Although I was only the assassin a couple times I could feel them keeping a close eye on me at all times.
"Okay, want to go to town? Get everyone up?" Kyle asked, finishing his crossiant and grabbing his satchel. He ran and screamed to get everyone up, and we were quickly surrounded by people in the middle of town.
Alex was super pale, her eyes flickering between the people, paranoid. Her eyebrows were furrowed, searching for something. The others noticed too. She was quiet. Too quiet. Then she stopped, dead in her tracks as a young, VERY attractive man strut our way.
"Hello, beautiful ladies. How are you?" He asked, his voice sounding like sweet syrup as he spoke. I was mesmerized, though thoroughly creeped out. She backed up a little, whispering in my ear as she passed.
"He's not human..."
