Rupert had to sneak past the security guard to get out to the bleachers during lunch. The security guard was new this year, probably because of all the scares of shootings in the past year or so across the country.
However, it was worth it when he reached the bleachers and saw the nerd Mindy had been 'flirting' with earlier just standing around. He was staring at his feet, shuffling around, when three boys apeared from behind him. Rupert recognized Mindy's brother, Byron, and his two flackies, Tristan Wentz and Sandy Logan.
"Hey nerd-geek!" Byron exclaimed, and Ruperty winced a bit. Sure, Byron was a senior, and he was a pretty nasty bully, but he wasn't the best when it came to insults. He should stick with his fists, and not words.
The nerd turned around, and gulped. As he very well should too, because there were three of the best football players of the school, and all three of them were rather burly. Also, they'd taken time to gear up into football gear, which made them look even bigger than normal.
The nerd opened his mouth to speak but before a word could even exit his mouth, Byron's fist connected with his stomach, sending the nerd flying back.
"That's for thinking you have a chance with the most desirable girl in school," Byron snarled. His fist connected again, and again. He kept pounding and hitting and punching, and soon the nerd was on the ground, crying. Rupert almost felt bad for the kid. Almost.
He thought it was over with when Byron walked away, but he was treated to more violence when Tristan kicked the nerd in the stomach once, and then spat on him. Sandy repeated what Tristan did, and then they both walked away, joining with Byron in a few strides.
Rupert watched as the nerd got up, and, clenching his stomach, walked away. The tears were very evident on his face, and Rupert chuckled a bit at that.
He wasn't a monster, he really wasn't. It was just that Ben Franklin High was a pretty boring place, and this was his only form of entertainment. It was what happened when you lived in a small town too anyways.
He decided to head back into school, gym class would be starting soon anyways. Rupert stopped at his locker, and grabbed his bag of gym clothes he'd brought. Mindy materialized out of nowhere next to him, smiling.
"Did you enjoy the show Storm?" she asked, smirking.
"How'd you know I watched?" Rupert asked, surprised that she knew. His blue eyes widened in wonder at his friend.
"Where else would you have gone during lunch?" Mindy asked. "Did Byron beat that loser to a pulp?"
"Good enough," Rupert said as he started walking to gym class, with Mindy right beside him. He explained to his best friend exactly what had happened during the fight, with Mindy grinning like a big fool the whole time.
"My brother is awesome!" she exclaimed. She smacked Rupert's back and then said, "Well see you later punk. I have to get to Algebra."
Rupert watched as Mindy walked in the opposite direction, and he headed to gym class. On the way, he bumped into someone, sending them flying on the ground.
It was a guy who looked really familliar to Rupert but he couldn't tell that well. Then he heard the guy murmur, "That's the third time today. Brand new school, first day, and I'm already getting pummeled."
Rupert knew that voice. He knew this kid. That's why he'd looked so familiar! Rupert thought back into the summer, of all the time he'd spent with this kid, of all those nights in Cabin Five where they ended up both in the same bed, cuddled under the blankets together after a rousing night of sexual activity.
Rupert had to get away from here before too much came back to him. He'd done his best to shove this kid out of his mind for the year, and they were never supposed to have ever seen each other again! If everyone at the school found out that he was gay, well he could pretty much say goodbye to everything he'd come to love (and hate) here, and he just was not ready for that. He was never going to be ready for it.
Rupert figured he could just fake being straight until he finished college, and then he would just come out to the people as gay. Until then, no one needed to know, and this summer was a mess up, a mistake. He should've never of slept with this kid, never done anything he'd done. It had been wrong, stupid, iditotic.
Yet, there had been some amazing parts, some wonderfully majestic parts of the summer as well.
The sun was peaking through the windows of Cabin Five, where Rupert was snuggled underneath the blankets, his arm wrapped around the guy in the bed next to him. His face was planted in the back of the guys' neck, breathing in the warm smell of his apricot shampoo.
Rupert planted a kiss on the guy's neck and whispered, "Wake up sleepyhead." He started peppering kisses on him and when the other boy finally woke up, Rupert smiled. "We have a free day today," he told the boy. "You know what that means?"
"Rupe," the boy grunted, "I'm still sore from last night. I don't think I"m ready for another round quite yet."
"Please, Wy," Rupert begged. "You know I love it when it's hard for you to walk around."
"You're crazy," the boy, Wy, murmured. He twisted around in the bed until he was facing Rupert and gave the boy a long, lingering kiss, which Rupert moaned into. He itched to be even closer to Wy and to have every inch of the two of them pressing together, skin against skin.
"Please?" Rupert begged, his blue eyes widening into his puppy dog expression. "Ple-ea-a-se?"
Wy couldn't help but groan. "Okay," he said, planting a kiss on Rupert's lips. This time it was quick, and just barely a peck. "I'm ready to become very sore."
Yes, Rupert thought as he walked to gym class. Wyatt Cross was the worst part of his summer, and the best part.
