Joker laughed as he watched the tears leak from the side of her eyes. "So serious doll!!! Why??? I thought this is what you wanted??"

Alice looked up at the green-haired criminal through the tears. She tried to nod her head...this was what she wanted, wasn't it? She walked willingly into his life...she could even admit that she had not just walked but barged into his world.

Alice had grown up in a wealthy suburb of Gotham, spending her weekdays in private parochial school, tutoring sessions and endless cello lessons. Her weekend were spent partying with her classmates.

Once she had graduated high school, though, she has become restless, spending her nights partying, drinking and getting high and her days sleeping. She went from boy to boy, never satisfied.

Her parents disapproved but never cut off her unlimited funds, more worried about how it would appear to their country club friends.

Then the night of her 22nd birthday, she laid eyes on him. The Crime Prince of Gotham. Of course, she knew about him; everyone did, but that night, when her friends and her had stumbled drunkingly into his club, she had seen his greatness up close. And from that moment on, she knew her destiny was at that club, with the Joker, in his world.

And now here she lay, sprawled on the couch, tears pouring from her eyes. After months of loitering around his club, trying to get his attention and finally she got it...and she couldn't be more terrified.

She glanced to the side, only to catch the sight of her best friend lying dead in the corner of Joker's office. She let out a small choked cry, which had the green-haired monster glancing to the side and letting out a loud chuckle.

"Oh get her out of your mind, doll-face! She just wasn't strong enough-she wasn't right for my group, my crew...my life. But you...." He said, laughing again while running a finger down her chin. "I could tell you were right for this life...you are strong..you can take it!"

Alice felt her chin tremble as she nodded. She just wished she could go back in time; just stayed in watching movies like Emi wanted to do. Instead she had dragged her out again to Joker's club.

They had both been giddy when he finally noticed them, had invited them back to his office. She remembered his slow smile as she had drunkly giggled and stated their intention to be part of his inner circle. How ready they were to leave their old lives behind.

He had let out a loud laugh as his assistant, the one he called Frosty, had walked in with a deck of cards and told Emi to draw.

She had drawn a 4 of hearts. And that is what Joker has told her she had to do. Show her "heart" to 4 of his men...in that room, with all the other goons watching.

Alice had seen the moment that Emi suddenly sobered up, as she started crying and tried to run from the room.

Then bullets, and blood and death.

It didn't seem real.

Alice watched now as Frosty walked towards her with the deck of cards, a lust-filled grin on his face as he held them out.

Alice trembled as she reached out, her hand gently pulling a card from the deck. She had to hold back a cry as she flipped the card over.

8 of hearts.

Jonny let out a low laugh, while Joker let out his own high cackle of delight.

"Ok doll, you know what is coming next. Time to show us what you are made of...."
