It seemed such a good idea at the time, to store everyone's biometric details on a database, and use them for verification instead of passports, driving licences, payment cards and the like. We were promised our lives would be so easy; all we'd need to do would be to tap a finger on a scanner or look into a camera... But then the supposedly secure database was hacked. You used to be able to get a replacement bank card or other physical documents, but how can you replace your fingerprints, irises, facial features, DNA...? Now we are all utterly screwed...
