If I speak for my grandfather
Then I must slowly forget everything
For dementia had taken his mind.
I can hug my grandmother and kiss her on the cheek.
I can remember the name of my mother and his other grandchildren.
I can even have conversations with my brother,
But I only hope to get to live to see my great grans
Like my grandfather did.
I can proudly tell you that he served in the army
And that he loved all his family.
I can say with pride that I got to know my grandfather,
But I sadly say that all the memories I had with him are slowly fading away.
At least I can still remember his face and his smile
For all the pictures we have of him,
He is always smiling.
