'We're not broken just bent'
The house was quiet for the first time in a long time, Harry had reluctantly agreed to go the support group Louis had suggested, Niall was spending the night Luke's house and Zayn had taken Liam and Rusty to the park for a walk.
Louis was feeling rather content, he was sat on the sofa with his sock clad feet propped up on the coffee table as he read the novel he usually only had the time to read before going to bed. There were jobs around the house that needed taking care of; the dishwasher needed to be unloaded and the towels needed folding, but Louis decided he wasn't going to do it. Not yet anyway.
But, just like every other time that Louis finds some peace or some time to spend on himself, he's interrupted, this time by his phone declaring that he's got a text. He lets out a loud sigh as he pushes himself up off of the couch, setting his book on the coffee table and his reading glasses on top of his book.
The phone is located in the kitchen and his heart stops and his phone is nearly dropped to the floor when he reads the text sent to him by Zayn:
You need to get to the park quick... There is something wrong with Liam.
Louis doesn't even think twice about anything he texts back a quick 'I'm on my way' and runs out of the house only just remembering to lock the door behind him.
It takes him under three minutes to arrive at the park and he climbs out of the car, locking it as he runs into the government conserved area searching for his husband and his baby. Louis' mind is reeling with all kinds of thoughts yet none of them are coherent as he races around blindly searching for his family, asking strangers if they've seen them and then finally Louis spots Zayn with a goofy smile on his face.
"Where is he? What's happened to him?" Louis was so frantic he didn't even notice his surroundings properly.
"Where's who?" Zayn inquires.
"Liam!" Louis pants, "Where is he?"
"Probably at your mother's by now." Zayn says calmly.
"What?" Louis breathes before looking past Zayn and taking in the surroundings. Zayn is stood on the grassy patch next to the fountain, behind him is one of their old blankets lain out across the grass. On top of it is a cliché picnic basket, a bottle of wine and two wine glasses.
Zayn smiles as he watches Louis slowly piece everything together. "Surprise!"
"You..." Louis steps forward and slaps Zayn across the face, not too hard, but hard enough to leave a faint red mark.
"Don't ever do that to me again!" Louis scolds, "You scared the crap out of me! I haven't even got my shoes on!"
Zayn let out a laugh, glancing down at Louis' fluffy bed socks in the grass. "I'm sorry, I just needed a way to make sure you'd definitely come out."
Louis allows himself to smile a little because Zayn's heart was in the right place, and what he's done for him is very cute. "Well I'm here. Are you going to explain to me what is going on?"
Zayn takes Louis' hand in his and gently leads him onto the blanket, indicating for him to sit before doing so himself. "I think that a talk between us is way overdue."
Louis nods in agreement but doesn't say anything, neither does Zayn. For a while they just sit in silence before Zayn finally breaks it, mustering up enough courage to get want he wants to say off his chest.
"You know," He begins, "If anyone had of asked me six months ago how I thought my life would be I would never have guessed this."
"Neither." Louis muses, he takes the bottle of red wine and pours him and Zayn a glass each, not particularly thirsty, but he just wanted something to do with his hands, the tension between them was much too thick for his liking.
