Professor Lupin walked over to the closet and unhinged the door. Suddenly I was surrounded by a grey mist. I contorted my face in confusion. This didn't make sense. Why would I be afraid of fog?
I tried the spell,"Ridiculous!" I pictured the fog as candy floss, and suddenly a child's mouth bid through revealing, that's right, more fog.
I pictured a knife cutting thought the fog and letting me see the classroom. As I uttered the magical word, what I had pictured moments ago was happening right before me, but with a twist. Behind the fog there was no classroom, just a two-headed man, with two crimson red drapes behind him.
"Pick a passage," said the man, whom I'll nickname Janus. It seems very suiting, as Janus is the god of doorways, endings, and beginnings. He didn't say anything else, but I knew that one would lead to my doom, and the other to safety.
I stood there knowing very well that I wouldn't make a choice soon, so I took a third option, and in must say I felt very ridiculous screaming at the god, at the top of my lungs. "ridiculous!" I yelled for what seemed like the millionth time. I was about to shout again, when I saw him open his mouth once more. "You only have one more chance"
I knew he ment that if I failed the next spell, I would have to choose between the covered passages. "PROFESSER!!" I yelped hoping for help, but then I realized,"THIS IS ONLY AN ILLUSION, RIGHT?"
I didn't hear a reply but I was certain, I thought of all the silly, stupid, and (yes you knew this pun was coming) ridiculous things I had done in my life. The image faded, but Janus was standing before me.
"That's it!" I realized," my fear is of the unknown." I hugged a very started looking Janus, and laughed. "I'm afraid of having to make a final choice, and choosing wrong" I though back to the fog,"I'm scarred of being lost, and making a mistake that will alter my life, like choosing the wrong job."
I smiled at the Defense against the Dark Arts teacher. "Thank you for letting me try again," I whispered," I understand why it didn't change the first time"
"uncertainty" I said proudly. "Uncertainty" I repeated. I turned and looked Lupin in the eye,"Professor," I said," what would have happened to Harry if he hadn't managed to say "Ridiculous?"
Remus thought for a while and whispered,"I don't know"
