Day One 4/05/18

Things ran as slowly as usual today at school. Mr. Sinker droned on about the properties of physics, nearly putting Beckham and I to sleep. Beckham tapped me on the shoulder during class and gave me a note. It read "Hey Shira, there's some new kid named James that I want you to meet. He seems pretty cool." I shook my head, and wrote on the sheet of paper "Okay weirdo. Meet up at lunch?" I passed the note back and turned to look at Beckham. He flashed me a smile and a quick thumbs up.

One lunch rolled around, I was sitting at our lunch table like usual, when Beckham came strolling in, James at his side. They sat down across from me at my table. "Shira, this is James. James, meet my best friend Shira." I smiled and shook James' hand, "Nice to meet you James." "Nice to meet you too." James looked familiar, but I just couldn't place it. "I ride with you on your bus. I get off on the third stop." James said laughing. I knew I had seen him somewhere. "Oh yeah," I said, "You're the kid who always runs back to his house every day." James shifted in his seat. "Yeah... yeah um. Yeah, that's me." His face sank to a sad, or disappointed look. I looked around awkwardly, tapping my fingers on the table. "Well, I have football practice today after school, if you guys would like to come." Beckham said happily, attempting to brighten the mood. "I'll have to check in with my dad," I said, reaching for my phone in my back pocket.

"I can't, I have to keep an eye on my sister tonight." James said, standing up and walking out of the lunch room.

Beckham looked at me, "Rumor has it that his sister and him aren't just brother and sister. He's been getting an earful about it, but he still talks about her." I shrugged, "It's just a rumor. Nothing is wrong with him or his sister, I doubt it."

That's all I have that was interesting today. The rest of the day was just boring lectures and getting water every five minutes in gym. I'll write about whatever happens tomorrow.
