AJANI
"BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP."
"So much for getting a good night's sleep." I think to myself as i roll out of bed. Looking out the blinds, I can see the sun on the horizon meaning it was around 5:30 in the morning.
Getting up, I head to the bathroom to take care of my morning hygiene routine. I immediately turn the shower on and wait for it to reach perfect temperature, and once it does, i slip out of my pajamas and into the welcoming water. Once I finished showering and washing my hair, I style my hair with Ms. Jessie's hair products and finish it off with a diffuser. This way, by the time that we leave my hair will have a lot of volume and my curls will be defined.
From down the hall, I hear my roommates Samaria, Jakayla and Aniyah also getting ready for the 8 am class that the four of us have together. I don't know who convinced us to take an 8 am, but waking up at 5:30 every other morning is a lot easier with my two best friends on by side.
My roommates are some of the most down to earth people i have ever met. There is never any drama between the four of us and we always get along. Who would have known that a group of four girls that met on move in day would form an unbreakable bond? Not me for sure, but i never doubted us.
Putting on a simple outfit consisting of a red tube top, black high waisted ripped jeans, and Bred Toe Jordan 1's, I head out to the kitchen early since it was my day to cook breakfast. Becuase there are four days of classes in the week, we each cook one of those days so that we save money on fast food breakfast.
Once in the kitchen, I pulled out my phone and put my favorite playlist on shuffle. Instantly, the smooth voice of The Weeknd, my favorite artist, flowed throughout the kitchen. As I danced to the refrigerator and pulled out eggs, bacon and pancake mix, Jakayla came into the kitchen and sat down at one of the bar stools.
"Hey sista girl!" Jakayla says ecstatically, "you ready for the first day of classes?"
"Girl why are you always on some other shit early in the morning? But yes I'm ready to get it over with." I respond, "You going to keep me company?"
"You know I be chilling," Jakayla says, "but yeah if you hurry your ass up, I swear it takes so long for you to cook."
I laugh and crack six eggs into a bowl and add whisk them together after adding pepper and season salt. Next I grab the bacon and assemble them on a plate and put it in the microwave. Finally, I mix the pancake mix together with milk and a splash of vanilla. After prepping all of the food, I begin to tend to the eggs and the pancakes.
When I finished, I placed the food equally among four plates for my roommates and I to grab on the way out the door.
Going back to my room, I grab my backpack and my keys and head back to the kitchen to eat while I wait on everyone else to finish getting ready. One of the many things that I like about living in a four bedroom apartment is that we all have our own personal places, and not to mention our own bathrooms so we don't have to battle each other as we are getting ready in the mornings.
When I finished my food, Jakayla, Aniyah, and Samaria were ready to leave. They were truly dressed to impress, but that is almost all the time. Gathering our things, we head to our cars and make the 10 minute drive to school.
Jakayla
"Bruh change the damn song! There is no reason for you to be this lit this early in the morning Niyah," I said as the Glokknine song began to play as I drove. "Like sometimes its okay to not feel like you're about to take part in a drive by, but to each his own I guess."
"Don't start with my Kay, because you know that I will finish in a heartbeat," Aniyah said giggling.
I was really feeling myself today with my hair in a high bun and my outfit which consisted of; a yellow Champion hoodie, with ripped medium colored jeans that had white fishnets under them, and yellow Nike Air Max 97s.
The first day of classes is always the most exiting thing about college because you never know who will be in your class, or the most painful part, how much you will be spending on textbooks this semester.
Focusing on the road, I played out all of the possibilities of how this day could go while Niyah continued to rap along to Kodak Black.
