The Last Normal Day

I knew something was wrong when I left for my last day of 8th grade.

First of all, both of my parents were home. My dad always left on Mondays for North Carolina (we live in Maryland) for work, and came home on the weekends. Today was Friday. And then when I went to go get food, there was barely any food in our fridge. "Did Caroline have a party last night?"

Caroline is my older sister. We have always been pretty close, so she would have told me if she had thrown a party.

"No Anna, but there is some cereal on the table." My mom said. That was her way of saying, don't ask any questions.

I ate my cereal and went up the stairs and down the hall to my room. My room was small, but cosy. I had a light pink blanket on the bed and grey leopard print accents. I had one window on the opposite side of the room looking out to the driveway. My best friend Abby lived across the street and we ALWAYS were together.

I went over to my closet and pulled out my favorite dress, it was white with black dots. I straightened my long blonde hair and put some mascara on my eyelashes. I packed my backpack and threw on some black converse.

On the way out I said bye to my parents and Caroline. I headed out the door to Abby's house.

As the last bell rang, I headed to my locker and found Abby.

"Why was your dad home this morning?" Abby asked.

"I have NO idea. He must have gotten back last night when I was asleep. They have both been acting strange."

"Oh well, I bet it's nothing." Abby said. She always knew how to calm me down. I am such a worrier.

"I'm gonna drop off my stuff at home and I'll meet you at your house." I replied.

"Okay, see you soon."
