"Dad? Why is it so dark in here?"

Willow, a newborn Golden Retriever said with intense curiosity,

A large male Golden Retriever turned around to look at the pup. He smiled at her with love and compassion.

"You opened your eyes, Willow! I am already so proud!"

The large golden Retriever replied, not answering her question,

Willow stumbled around on her paws trying to find her way around. She briskly walked in one direction where she soon tripped over her father's paws.

    "Ah! What was that?"

    Willow said terrified,

"Oh Willow, it was just my paws. It is completely bright in here. Don't worry your eyes are just adjusting."

Her dad said standing her up with his paw. He then walked over to face her. He proudly smiled at her. Willow was his only pup. She was the only one who was born before her mother died. He thought about how proud her mother would have been if she could see how early she opened her eyes.

"Dad, where is July? She was taking care of me. That's what I remember before I opened my eyes."

Willow said while trying to find her dad,

She stumbled over a stick on the ground. Willow then turned around and sniffed the ground searching for the stick. She found it!

    "Aha!"

    Willow said with interest,

Willow hesitated before picking the stick up in her mouth. She then plopped down and wagged her tail with the stick still in her mouth.

    "Did anyone ask for me?"

A small Pomeranian said strutting into the small hollow,

Willow smelled some fumes of a sweet plant enter the area. Willow let go of the stick then smelled the air more.

"Where is that smell coming from?"

    Willow questioned,

"That's me. It's the smell of mint. I was just handling some for you. I also have some for you to eat."

July the Pomeranian said setting down the mint infront of Willow. Willow sniffed the ground finding the mind and started to chew it.

"By moonlight her eyes should be adjusted. That's very soon, so get excited Gyser."

    July told Willow's father, Gyser,

Willow swallowed the mint and then winced. She stood up and started to shake like she was wet.

"I was trying to shake the strong taste out of my system."

Willow said embarrassed yet she giggled,

July and Gyser chuckled at this statement. Gyser left to tend to his leader duties while July stayed with Willow to feed her more mint. Willow wagged her tail as she played with the stick, giggling.

"I will be fearless when I become a Hunter! Especially in battle. The Sahali Tribe dogs will cower in fear, because they will be like a mouse to me!"

Willow said attacking the stick and ground. Willow looked up but she stared past July.

...

It became late in the night and Gyser decided to see what Willow thought of the world. He trotted inside, and found Willow scratching behind her ear with her back paw. He said hello to Willow and July and then looked at Willow.

"Dad! I heard someone walk in. You know what July told me, I am blind! Isn't that amazing? I bet you are proud!"

Willow said still unclear of what it meant,

Gyser growled at July in anger. His ears bent on the back of his head.

"What do you mean she is blind!"

    Gyser barked,

July was ashamed of her discovery. She looked over at Willow, who's tail was still and her eyes were tearing.

"Dad, are you not proud of me?"

    Willow said whining,
