Morpheus and Alyssa spend their day together in Wonderland. Enjoy!

I trudge through the tulgey forest, barely managing to keep up with Morpheus. I slip, and I snatch my hand back as an irritable tulgey bares its teeth at me. I sigh. "Are we there yet?" I know I sound like a whiny two year old, but I'm exhausted, and my hair has escaped its braid, so blond wisps flutter annoyingly around my temples. Morpheus glances back at me, and the corner of his mouth twitches in a smirk. "Just a little further, luv. You know, I could carry you in my arms. . . " his eyes sparkle mischievously. Only he could make that sound so intimate. I blush, and set my chin. "March onward, then." We continue for about another hour, and I'm panting when we finally reach a glade free of tulgeys. "Why did you bring me here, of all places? And why couldn't we fly?" My back feels prickly with sweat, and my voice wheezes out of me. Morpheus, annoyingly, isn't even breathing hard. He takes his red velvet gloves out of the pocket of his jacket and puts them on. Then, he sets his cajolery hat at a cocky angle on his head. Fitting, because he plans to cajole me into staying in Wonderland forever. Not that I'll do it. I'm only spending the day with him because I vowed it on my life magic. After he gives his clothes- tight breeches, a deep sapphire velvet coat, and white silk shirt- a once over, he strides over to me and takes my face in his hands.

"Today, you unleash the madness and beauty that is Wonderland. You will give in to your secret desires. You will be impulsive, rash, and capricious." Morpheus's cockney accent reverberates in my head, and his familiar scent of licorice and smoke surrounds me. My heartbeat picks up, afraid and eager at once. I shake my head to clear it. "That doesn't explain why we couldn't fly here. Why did we come here, anyway?" I frown and cross my arms over my chest, to provide a barrier between us. Morpheus's jewels glitter an amused shade of lavender."I brought you here because when you unleash your madness, I didn't want anything important to be destroyed." He sweeps his hands at the tulgey trees around us. Then, he leans in closer and whispers, "I made you walk because I didn't want you to exhaust yourself." He laughs and ducks as I take a swipe at his head. I want to wipe that smirk off his face, but the netherling part of me reasons that he meant my powers, not my body. I sigh and raise an eyebrow. "Well, I'm ready then. What do I do?" At that moment, the sky becomes dark, and I'm suddenly unable even to see my hand in front of my face. I curse. I forgot that Wonderland doesn't have a twilight, or a sunset, for that matter. Menacing clicking sounds echoe all around us as the tulgeys wake and clack their teeth together. Something rustles, and I jump. Wonderland's creatures are loyal to no one but themselves. Just because I'm their queen doesn't mean that they won't happily devour me, and I don't even want to know what creature lives among tulgeys. An inhuman, unearthly roar echoes in my ears, and I drop to my knees. The sound reverberates in my eardrums. Then, the stench hits my nose. The smell of rotting flesh and something else, something to disgusting to describe, makes my nose want to jump off my face.

Morpheus's silky voice suddenly comes from behind me. "Do it, Alyssa. Use your powers, your creativity, everything that makes you the best of both worlds." His soft fingers trail up my waist, and I gasp. Suddenly, Morpheus seems to disappear. I'm standing alone. "Morpheus!" He doesn't answer, and I grind my teeth. Trust him to leave me alone in the dark, with something that definitely wants to eat me. I want to punch him in the face, but the netherling side of me is also curious as to what I can do. I feel my heart pounding harder, both with dread and anticipation, as my mind races to find a solution.
