Survival of the Weakest

Eevees have the ability to evolve into the form that best fits them. While most other pokemon evolve regardless of any advantages or disadvantages their new form gives them. It could even be said that only the eevee truly evolve, or change in a beneficial way. All others just change.

And of course, there is the simple fact that eeveelutions are not exactly weaklings. We are in the upper class of pokemon strength, powerful enough to be used competitively by League champions.

So why are we the rarest, why is it that perhaps the only thing keeping us from extinction is the fact that humans like us and breed eevee?

Why is there only one of each legendary? They're so strong...so where are the others?

Eevees are the most adaptable of all pokemon. We can live on the rim of a volcano or in the depths of the ocean. We are strong, stronger then most. We are some of the strongest of all. We should be so common and widespread.

So why are there almost none of us?

What are common pokemon? Rattata and pidgey. Weaklings. The youngest eevee, even unevolved, could beat them by the dozens. An eeveelution, an eeveelution could beat them by the hundreds, the thousands, without even breaking a sweat.

They are weak, and they are everywhere.

Or look at magikarp, the undisputed weakest and most common of all. Why? They should have gone extinct eons ago. They should be the ones fading quickly from the world, not us.

Of course, some say that it is because the gyarados lay their thousands of eggs. But what of dragon pokemon? Dragonite are powerful, and their offspring are no where near as weak. It may be harder to get to the level for evolution, but dratini and dragonair can fight, unlike magikarp.

What is it? Why? The only thing I can think of is that eevee are practically domesticated by now. We scarcely exist in the wild. Like bulbasaur, charmander and squirtle, we depend on humans to make sure we lay enough eggs for the next generation.

Perhaps that's the reason. We don't get together and choose our mates under normal circumstances, because our lives are battling. But why would that make a difference?

I don't know. I don't understand. I can only hope that someone will realize what is wrong before it is too late.
