Alex
"So what's next for you? Where you going after this?" I hum quietly, crossing my left leg over my knee and placing the orange flowers down on the dark wooden bench next to me. We sat on a bench by the duff of a glistening canal, watching boats cut through the water and the sun was slowly lowering itself in the blue wispy sky, the light it casts becoming more golden and soft every minute that passed. My body was still in New York time and it was about 4 am at home and I hadn't slept in two days, all my cells ached for rest but I just wanted to savour every moment I had with James because I'll never know when I'll see him again. "Home" he says simply, his blue eyes staring down at me with content. "And where's that?" His gaze turned harsh, "I won't tell anyone darling, I'm good at keeping secrets, you should see the secret I have sleeping in my guest bedroom" I chuckle lightly, my mind casting back to the ghost cuddled up in the fresh bedsheets of the guest room. "Bucharest, I have a little apartment there, it's pretty run down but hey it's home" automatically, Bucky starts looking around the street and out surroundings out of habit and paranoia that someone might be listening into our conversation. He pauses, a small smile spread on his face, "who is in your apartment?" He ponders, childlike curiosity lighting up his face making my chest flutter like a thousand butterflies. It's nice to see him like this, he looks more rested, more content and happier. It's quite nice for us to sit here in Amsterdam like we could be a normal couple going on a cute romantic vacation. Like we could be normal. "A dead avenger who 'died' 2 years ago but I just so happen to bump into him roaming the streets of queens... he's like us you know, from Hydra" my voice shakes at the mention of the organisation like it physically hurt me to say, like the word literally reopened old scars. "Really, who?" He murmurs leaning his weight towards me so our shoulders were pressed together. "One of the maximoff twins" He raises his eyebrows, "It's the quick bastard isn't it? He's the 'dead' one" I laugh at his summary of Pietro, "you met the maximoffs?" "Yes, once in a Hydra base, just before you arrived actually" he recalls, his hand removing his hat from his head, ruffling his brown hair. "Well I'll tell him you said hi...and you need a haircut" I say reaching out to run my hands through his hair and the yawning, my eyelids becoming heavy as a heavy spell of fatigue suddenly plagues me. "You should get home, you must be exhausted" he states standing up and holding out his hand for me to take, I gladly grab it, enjoying the warmth of his hand against my cold skin. "You want a quick ride home?" I mumble getting to my feet as the cold creeps back up on me, silver shooting down the blonde locks of my hair. "Sure, for old times sake, I've missed feeling nauseous from travelling through your portals he grins, his metal hand reaching out to twirl a lock of my silver hair through his fingers. "This was really nice Buck, I'm glad your okay, will I ever see you again?" I ponder grabbing the tulips off the bench. "If you want to see me you know where to find me." He grins. "Please call me Bucky, I like to know you're safe and fine, and if you ever need me I'll be there in a flash, I'm only a portal ride away" "Don't worry I will Alex, and I'm sorry I'm really sorry" he questions pulling me close and placing his hands in my hips. "Shut up for gods sake" I hiss in a playful tone, wrapping my arms around his neck, his lips pressed to my forehead. "I missed you, Doll" he whispers resting his chin on top of my head as I rest my cheek on his chest, listening to his heart hammer and inhaling his smell, Brooklyn 1939, like Steve. "I missed you too" I yawn which prompted him to pull away from me, his hands on my shoulders. "Come on, go home and get some rest." He instructs and I nod my head tiredly. "First you need to go home" I say lazily flicking my wrist and watching as the portal swirls open. "I'll call you" "You better, thanks for the flowers and a great day" I smile at him, looking him up and down one last time. "Good bye alex" "Good bye James" I smile watching him as he steps through the portal. I flick my wrists again and the portal snaps shut for a second then opens again with a more of dark blue tone to it. I look around and take in the tall crooked houses and the potted plants and strings of fairy lights over the canals. I can check this off my bucket list.
