Chapter 2

Two days later. Moving day. Groan. But I try to make an effort to be positive; trust me, its not easy. I'll skip the other two days, 'cause all I did was lounge around in my pajamas. Anyway, today I eat a granola for breakfast. Then I meet up with Belle and go visit my old haunts. Huh, funny choice of words considering what happens later. We finish packing. We go and say goodbye.

Then there's the drive.

Ten hours. Ten freaking hours to get to Onyx. The frustrating part is that I don't even want to go.

I hope a hurricane stops the flight.

I hope the pilot has to turn back to Puerto Rico.

Better yet, I hope mom comes to her senses and stays.

Of course none of that happens.

Ten hours later I'm sitting in the terminal (I accidentally called it lobby but the very snobby attendant with the fakey accent informed me that "lobby! That's the most reedeeculos thing I've ever heard! Iz called terminal zweethhearth". And yes she sounded like that). Anyway, I'm sitting reading my book and waiting for my godfather to come pick us up- my dad is working- when I hear this voice: hurry up! We are waiting for you. "What the fuck ?! Who's there?!". I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself. It was so freaky! My mom gives me a control yourself look and gestures at the grandparents sitting with us. Sorry I mouthed and turned back to my book. But I couldn't get that voice out of my head; who's waiting for me? What did they want? Were where they, anyways? I had so many questions and no clue on how to answer them! Eventually I decided that I had enough stress about changing country's, schools and whatnot. I probably just imagined it I told myself. I changed positions in my chair and tried to focus on the plot of the book. It was about a girl who is really self conscious and lies about having a fake boyfriend to her summer friend but gets caught in the act and t-o-t-a-l-l-y screws it with her boyfriend-to-be and best friend. Of course, it has a happy ending. But since I don't believe in happy endings anymore, I close it and pull out my other favorite; its about a girl who moves to a house that's actually haunted and has to help a ghost who had saved her life from something-or-other. I'm almost finished when I hear a big booming voice (this time a real voice, not in my head) say: "Well well, if it isn't Monica Vincent! It's been years!" "Yes it has been, Gary. So nice to see you" my mom says, smiling. Gary is my godfather, by the way. He's also my dad's best friend and business, erm... what's the word?... oh right: partner. Business partner, that is. Oh, and roommate while he finishes buying the house. Not the point. "I've got great news for ya'll!" says uncle Gary. "What?" asks my mom; "Rick bought the house! That's were I'm taking you now, actually" "oh that's wonderful, isn't it Chrystee?" says mom. "Yes, wonderful, fantastic, marvelous, whatever. Can we just go?". Mom and Gary exchange a meaningful glance. Finally we start to leave. We get to the house; its kinda nice actually: two floors, shiny wooden doors, dream catchers in all the windows... But as soon as I step inside I know there's something wrong. I don't know how, but I just get this feeling; and it's telling me to run. And suddenly I think I know why there are dream catchers in all the windows.
