Eren woke up to the distant noise of someone knocking on his door. He didn't want to open his eyes yet, his bed felt just too comfortable, he didn't want to fully wake up. Apart from that, his body felt really sore, as if he had been running for miles, so he snuggled deeper into the covers.
Mikasa or whoever was knocking on his door seemed to say something in a weird language. Sounded like French. Ugh, he was probably still half-dreaming of his faux-pas from yesterday's French class...
The voice called out again. "Eh chouchou, je vais aller travailler maintenant..." (Hey my Dear, I'm leaving for work now...)
Eren yawned in response. He must have slept in without hearing his alarm clock going off. He groggily opened his eyes, wondering why Mikasa was still talking French to him in such a strange voice, when something next to him gave a loud bark and Eren answered with a frightened as shit yelp, almost falling off the bed.
"What the –"
Suddenly, he was completely awake, alarm signals going off in his head. He looked around the unfamiliar room he found himself in. Across from where he was sitting on a comfortable bed, was a dark wooden door, to his right was a window through which sunlight floated into the tidy room. A fucking tidy room. He had never seen a room cleaner than this one. And next to his bed was a dog with dark brown fur lying on a purple blanket. Why the hell had a dog been sleeping next to him?
Where the heck was he? Had he been drugged and kidnapped? Had he eaten any Alice-in-Wonderland-like mushrooms for dinner or was he just going completely crazy? The dog was really beautiful though...
As he didn't want to be held captive in such a clean and tidy room any longer, he lunged out of the bed he had been sleeping in, realizing he was wearing a pair of short black sport pants and a matching top. He didn't remember putting these on...
It was as if his skin was radiating with warmth, the air around him almost vibrating from the odd sensation that crept through his body. He felt weird and somewhat smaller in these clothes.
He tugged at the hem of the shirt and felt the colour drain from his face. His arms were covered in drawings of what seemed like black ink. He saw birds, feathers, flowers, a ship and abstract shapes that went further up his upper left arm, ending in different half to full circles that most likely indicated the moon phases... He tried rubbing them off, but somewhere in the back of his mind, there was a dull feeling telling him these must have been itched into his skin a while ago. Real tattoos. And they seemed oddly familiar to him.
He turned to look around the room for one more moment and his heart stopped when his glance fell to the mirror on the closet next to the door.
A loud scream left his mouth, which made the dog bark again, before he could cover it and nervously began tracing over his face – No, not his face anymore, someone else's face that was somehow plastered onto his own... He stepped in front of the mirror and grey eyes stared back at him in horror. The grey eyes of no one else than all-time-annoying-midget Levi Ackermann.
The voice that had woken him, appeared again. "Ca va, mon chérie?" (You're alright my Dear?) Eren held his breath. Oh shit. He couldn't go out there. What the heck was he supposed to say. However, if he said nothing that person would sooner or later knock again or, even worse, come into his... – the... – Levi's room. Was he really Levi? How did his mind get into Levi's body? What the hell was going on?!
"Ehm, I'm fine, eh tout va bien, merci", Eren tried. The voice leaving his mouth sounded lower than his own, maybe a bit darker even.
"D'accord, I really have to go now, see you later!" He could hear footsteps walking down some stairs and moments later a door was shut. The person – most likely Levi's mum must have left the apartment.
Eren jumped to the door and yanked it open. He stood there for a moment or two, then he stumbled down some stairs and into what seemed to be a small, but very tidy kitchen. It smelled like chocolate and Eren spotted a freshly baked cake on the table. Next to it was a small note saying:
Sweetea – take some cake to school if you like – see you tonight. Love, Maman.
Suddenly a thought struck his mind and he looked over his shoulder, scared that someone else could be in the apartment with him. But everything remained silent. As far as he knew Levi only lived with his Mum and had no siblings. And apparently he had a dog as well.
But if I am in Levi's body... does that mean..., he didn't dare to end that thought and sprinted upstairs, almost tumbling over the dog as he entered Levi's room again. He didn't have to search long before he found Levi's mobile phone lying next to the bed on a small nightstand made of thick books.
He pressed the home button and next to the clock indicating that it was 7.39am, there were eleven missed calls. Eleven! He tried unlocking the phone, but the stupid thing blocked his attempt by asking him for a numbered password that he clearly did not know. He tried a few random combinations, but all of them failed.
He let out a high pitched shriek when the phone suddenly started to vibrate in his hand. He didn't have to guess who it was, but seeing his own mobile number flashing over Levi's screen made it even more surreal. It rang one time, two times – he took a deep breath, then he pressed the green phone symbol and held the phone to his ear. At first, he didn't dare to speak.
"Hello?!", a familiar yet strange sounding voice called from the other side.
"Levi?", Eren asked, his voice close to trembling, "is that you?"
