It was December 15, 1965 in Bergen, Norway. Thirteen year old Nina Aarseth was gathering things for Christmas. She just realised that she had forgotten some of the money at home. "Oh no, I'm running out of money! I still need to buy something for Brede and Egil" She sighed. "Oh forget it. I'll get some money tomorrow." she said.
Suddenly, someone came from behind Nina and said, "Oh hello Nina! I didn't mean to bump into you today!"
"Hello Mali! Nice to see you! Shopping for Christmas presents I assume?" asked Nina. Mali Strøm is a great friend of Nina's. Mali replied saying, "Yes, for all of my family. My mother gave me enough money for all of them. I still have a lot of money left over!"
"Really? I ran out of money and I still have to buy something for my cousins." said Nina sadly.
"Here! You can have the rest of my money!" said Mali handing the money to Nina.
"No, no, no. You should keep the money. I could come here tomorrow." answered Nina not accepting the money. But Mali insisted she take the money so Nina took the money reluctantly and bought the presents. "How could I repay you?" asked Nina.
"No need for that. You are my best friend! Nothing can separate us." said Mali cheerfully.
"Aww, you're so sweet Mali!" said Nina. "It's nothing! We are best friends!" said Mali assuringly. "Well I better get going now! Have a nice day and see you tomorrow!" exclaimed Nina. "You too!" Mali called out.
