Bens P.O.V
After school, we met Jack by the gate, unknowingly, we asked where Mark was. "...Some idiot challenged him to a fight after school, I told him not to do it, but you know enough about him." Jack sighed, looking through his phone. The three of us talked, waiting for Mark. With no words spoken, Jacks head poked up vigilantly. "Hey Mark!" He chimed, through his Irish accent, "How'd it go?" Mark just shrugged, "Hey Leo, Ben." Leo waved, and I nodded. "Ready to go?" Jack smiled cheerfully. Mark ruffled the smaller boys hair and kissed his head. "Let's go babe~" He joked, causing Jack to break out in a blush. "I HATE it when you call me that!" he squeaked, as the four of us walked off.
The more we walked, since Leo and I walked behind Mark and Jack, the more I noticed about how Mark and Jack acted towards each other. They'd hold hands, even if people were watching, they kissed a couple times too, and Mark seemed so protective of Jack, ( and vice versa even though Jack can't protec Mark. )they seemed so much more genuine than Leo and I. I sighed, and Leo grabbed my hand. That's the first time we'd held hands in front of other people. "Leo what-" "I keep seeing you stare at them. So what if people are watching Ben? Be yourself." My mind froze, I stared at Leo with a sense of security in my eyes. I griped his hand tighter, and we kept walking.
We ended up at a restaurant, not one of those fancy ones that cared about everything. It was pretty much a home-style version of McDonald's with good, home made food, not processed bull. We walked inside, and Jack quickly slid into a booth near the window. It was the cleanest out of all of them, and the waiters and waitresses passed Jack, waving and smiling. "You guys come here often?", Leo broke the silence. "Yeah, it's where we met." Mark glanced over at Jack, who was already looking through the updated menu. "Hm? Oh yeah, this is where I work." Jack didn't look up. "Then why're you so interested in the menu? Shouldn't you have it memorized?" I joked. Jack laughed, "New things get added almost everyday, it's hard to memorize it all." A waitress came over, her golden nameplate shone off her uniform against the diner lights, but I could make out her name was Lucy. "Howdy lovebirds." She teased, fixing her stereotypical waitress uniform. "Heya Lucy. I'll be in tomorrow, I swear on it." Jack smiled at her, and then she turned to us. Her ginger hair swayed in front of her face in a curl, then she spoke. "And you two must be their new friends. Be nice to my lovebirds." She teased again. Mark rolled his eyes, and as Lucy fixed her hair, she wrote some things down on her notepad. "For you two?" she asked Leo and I. "Erm... Just a basket of fries for me." Leo smiled at Lucy as she wrote it down. "And you?" "Anything you two recommend." I turned to Mark and Jack. "Oooo the chicken patties are to die for." Jack gasped excitedly. Mark nodded in agreement. "Alright, comin' up." Lucy smiled, and walked away.
Lucy walked away, and Mark asked me outside. "You okay?" I asked, as soon as we were alone in the parking lot. "You haven't said a whole lot since the end of the-" Mark rolled up his sleeve. He had more bruises and cuts than I could count, some looked horrible. "Shit. You need me to take you to the hospital? I can-" "No. It's alright." Mark muttered. I kept asking, and Mark kept insisting he was alright. "It just felt god awful to keep it to myself." He shook his head, and placed it in the palm of his hand. "I don't think you did that to yourself." I sighed. "Nah. I wouldn't." Mark intonated. "Don't.. Don't mention any of this to Jack alright? He'd blame himself." I hadn't figured Mark had a side like this. I mean, even steel has a breaking point, I just didn't expect it from Mark. "Alright. I won't-" Before I could finish my sentence, I was pulled into a tight hug. I hugged Mark back until he let go,
and we walked back inside.
