she woke up at 7:27 that morning, got out of bed and locked herself in the bathroom, washed her face, brushed her teeth and stared at her reflection in the mirror above the sink; her once full-of-life golden-green eyes were now looking dead, blunt. the dark circles under her eyes were proving her wrong when she'd tell her aunt she was sleeping with 'no difficulties'. however, even if she denied feeling ok, no one could blame her; losing the people who literally brought to you to life, could be either a relief or a knife-stab right in the heart...

"amy, are you up yet?" she heard. "i'm coming down in a sec." and with that, she got out and changed her clothing before walking downstairs, where she was greeted by a smile and a raspy 'good morning' by the woman who had her custody, Sophia Clarke. her aunt had married her dad's younger brother, so they all had the same last name: Clarke.
it was almost 7:50 when she got out the door and started walking towards the school, but before that, she had to stop at a cafe. she just needed her daily dose of caffeine. her earphones were plugged in her phone and the volume was all the way up as she kept on walking and walking, head tilted down...
she was standing out the high school's doors on time, coffee in hand, still looking down. she walked in and started making her way towards her first class; maths. the schedule had been given to her already, by the school's principal, who she didn't know and had never seen since her uncle took care of all the paperwork that needed to be done.
she had almost gotten where she was supposed to be when she fell into someone, and of course, spilled her coffee on them; so cliche... "oh my- i'm so sorry!" she said being genuinely apologetic and started trying to wipe the beverage off the stained shirt. "I-it's ok..." a male's voice said and she stopped what she was doing and looked up; he was a few inches taller than her. brown eyes, long eyelashes, light brown hair and slightly crooked teeth that were showing as he smiled at her. "im tyler, by the way. you must be the new girl." "yes, my name's amelia but people call me amy..." "its very nice to meet you amy." he took her hand in his and gave it a light shake. and then, someone's throat cleared and amy looked above tyler's shoulder, just to see a black-haired beauty standing, hand on her hip and her heel was repeatedly hitting the ground as if she was waiting for something. "oh, jade." he said when he had turned around. "hi tyler. we were going to walk to class together, remember?" she spoke. "yeah, right..." he said and walked towards her. "hi noobie!" jade got closer and whispered in amy's ear: "stay away from him." then she stepped back and smiled at her devilishly. tyler had an apologetic and kind of fed up look on his face, as he walked behind her, slightly shaking his head.
she finally made it to class right before the bell rang. one seat was empty, which she gladly took. but as she walked towards it, something caught her eye... there was tyler, sitting in his seat, looking annoyed at the girl she knew as 'jade' was draped over him, touching his chest and acting all flirty. it kinda killed her the little bits of hope she had in her; tyler seemed like a cool guy and, truth be told, he was attractive and she was interested in him, although they hadn't even met properly. he was wearing a different, clean shirt. she sat down, something between a frown and a smile spread across her lips. the teacher walked in at that moment and started talking. he introduced himself and then told amy to get up and introduce herself too...
the first period went by pretty fast and amy was on the verge of getting up before someone pushed her shoulder with enough force to make her sit down again. "hey." said the familiar voice sharply. "nice to see you again. in fact, i wanted to give you a little something. you know, since your coffee was spilled on my boyfriend's shirt, i thought i'd get you another one." said jade and amy gasped as she felt something hot dripping down her head. "the restroom is at the end of the hall sweety!" she said and left laughing. then amy got up, tears threatening to fall down her eyes, and ran towards the bathroom.
she had cleaned her hair, that doesnt necessarily mean all the coffee was off, but her shirt was soaked and stained. my first day and this already happened... she thought as she sat down in a chair at the school's cafeteria. a heavy sigh escaped her lips as she laid her face on the table. she didnt even care of going to her next class after that. a slight "hey" made her jump a bit as she lifted her head and looked up. "hi..." she tried to smile at him. tyler then took a sit down next to her and asked:
"are you ok?" and to that, she answered with a: "yeah, despite the coffee in my hair..."
