Rex, was a young male German Shepherd. He was born a great pup, just with many differences. Unlike his litter mates, he was the only one who had a different taste in enjoying himself. Rex loved nothing more than to sit on the grass an stare into the sky and watch the sun move as the clouds danced around it, while his brothers and sisters played in the grass. Rex wished nothing more than to share that moment with someone special. His brothers and sisters would pick on him here and there, but he never felt happier than to watch the sun move across the sky from the break of dawn to the sun fall.
One day, a strange man came and took him from his sanctuary of a home. Slowly seeing the sun fade from his eyes and into the night sky that dwelled upon his new "home." Rex was taken in this weirdly shaped figure with four rounded wheels. He assumed it was what they called a "car." The man had a gruffly dark beard and soft green eyes. He took Rex and drove him to his new home.
A street down from Rex's new home, lived a cat who just lost her whole litter to an attack, but one. Her last kit's name was Moon. The mother cat gently cared for her smallest kit. She would warm her with her with her soft black with spotted white pelt. Moon would look to her mother's angelic silver eyes with specks of ocean blue in them. Together they would watch the sky become a galaxy before them, her mother would always tell her that her brothers and sisters became stars and would always be there for her. Moon would watch the stars dance happily across the dark sky wishing she to could become one of them.
One day her mother went out to find food for her kit. Moon look out to the stars on the silent night. Her mother did not return. Moon then decided to go find her mother herself. One step out of the alley and what Moon saw forever tore her heart. Her mother lay dead on the streets with dry blood surrounding her. Her body would fade away the more cars ran over her once breathing body. Moon slowly walked to her dead body and mewed for her, nudging her cheek to wake up.
Moon in the distance heard dogs barking, she nudges her mother more and more to get her to move. No movement. As the dogs got closer she ran towards the alley. The dogs managed to corner her in the alley, as fast as her small paws could carry her. Crashing into a small corner the dogs managed to get her. Biting her and pulling on her, the dogs were slowly tearing her apart. Moon was bleeding heavily, trying to escape but couldn't. As her small and strong yowls could be heard from a distance.
Not far away was Rex walking with his new owner. Rex perched up his ears to the sound of yowls. He ran to the sound of yowls and pulling his owner. "Woah boy! Slow down!" He yelled as he was pulled with force. Slowly he heard the loud yowls of a cat in an alley. They both see the dogs trying to tear apart Moon. The old man came and shooed the dogs away. While the young man did, Rex slowly walked to Moon who was slowly bleeding to death. Moon was frightened, so she tried to crawl away when Rex came and licked her.
The man looked around to see if the kitten didn't belong to anyone or where it's mother was. As the old man turned around, he saw the decaying body of the mother. Her body was all withered up. He looked at the kitten and Rex, who was comforting her at the moment.
Moon mewed and tried to get up, but Rex nudged her to stay down. He looked to his owner who saw the poor kit bleed to death. He picked her up and wrapped her up in his sweater to stop the bleeding. Rex followed along just to make sure of his owner and his new companion were okay.
When they arrived home, the man cleaned her wounds and put a soft pink collar on her. He put her on a nice soft cushion for her to rest on. Moon mewed and mewed in sadness just to see her mother once again.
"You okay?" the young dog said.
"I miss my mother..." she softly mewed.
He got on top of the cushion she was resting on and lied next to her. He cuddled her and licked her forehead. He gently made sure she was okay.
"Don't worry... I'll be here for you."
Moon smiled and purred. Licking his cheek, she mewed.
"My name is Moon..."
He looked at her, as young as they are; He began to have small feelings for a small feline.
"My name is Rex." He happily barked, she looked into his hazel brown eyes. She too began to feel her insides becoming butterflies and she lied next to him. Moon quietly fell asleep on his paws and she purred. Rex tried his best not to move in order to not wake her up. He too fell asleep.
Later on that night, Moon fell into a deep sleep. In her dreams she saw her mother's death, as her mother died she ran into that same spot only to see Rex being the one attacking her. As soon as Rex took the bite she closed her eyes and yowled in fear. Moon suddenly awoke yowling in fear. Her yowls woke up Rex, who was silently dreaming about food. Falling off the cushion he barked looking for the danger.
"Moon! What happened!?"
Moon was so frightened of her dream she couldn't move. Rex saw her frightened and shaking. He smiled and licked her cheek.
"Hey..." The gentle pup barked softly. Moon looked into the dogs soft eyes. "What happened...?"
Moon mewed and softly spoke to the worried puppy.
"I just had a dream, I saw my mother die before my eyes. As I ran down the alley I saw you chasing me. You were the one who hurt me."
Rex licked the kitten to calm her down as Moon leaned against the soft puppy as she looked out of the large window to see the gleaming stars and moon.
"You know, me an my mom... we use to watch the stars dance across the skies and whenever we would see a shooting stars we would make promises to each other."
Moon began to tear up. She didn't want to ever think of the way her mother died. So Rex got off the cushion and went outside. He found a flower with soft purple petals. Pulling it out and brought it back inside. He put the flower by Moon's ear and licked her cheek.
"This flower is for you, with it you will know I will always be by your side till the day I die. And I promise, I will always here for you."
"Promise....?"
Rex looked at the small fluffy cat who was staring outside the window.
"Promise..."
