Moon was sitting by the windowsill taking in the sun and watching the clouds float across the sky. Rex walked into the room looking at her. She was slowly trying to fall asleep. Her coat shined against the sun. Rex looked up at her and barked.
Moon looked down at him and smiled. Rex felt his heart skip a beat when she smiled. Rex over a year grew feelings for the Norwegian Forest cat. It's over a year ever since they found the small kitten. From that day and on he promised to forever be there for her. But secretly he knew he had fallen in love for her.
Moon looked at him, his eyes gleaming brighter than the sun and his fur shining softly along the warmth of the sun. Moon knew he had kept his promise, she too had fallen for the big canine. Suddenly the same thought crossed her mind: "How can a feline fall for a canine?" A thought that had been bothering her for that same year.
She shook her head of the thought and lied down facing away from him, just for being too scared of admitting her feelings for him. Turning her head to look at him one more time she noticed he was right next to her. He got on top of her, almost pounding the poor cat.
"H-HEY!" She yelled at the top of her lungs, as much as she loved him she also hated him for doing things like that.
"S-sorry... I just couldn't help myself."
"Your a dork." She mewed sarcastically.
"And your a cute dork..." He barked back at her.
"W-what?" She stuttered confused and lost. Did he just call her cute? She looked at him in a confused way. "I- I mean your a cute cat... Aren't all cats cute?" He tried to fix his mistake by walked it off slowly. Moon blushed as he walked away. She smiled as she thought about what he had just told her. Rex on the other hand was having second thoughts on not telling her what he felt for her.
Moon knew he felt something for her, but she didn't want to put pressure on him. Watching him go, she continued to think about what he had just said to her and with a smile she fell asleep soundly again.
As Rex walked away he noticed a black smoke amongst the sky. He saw strange men with helmets on their heads. His owner had called him in, but Rex got more curious as the men came closer to his house. He barked at the men trying to get their attention. Then a strange man came and pat him on the head and noticed his owner walking out with a leash.
The strange man looked at his owner. "So you finally decided to settle down?" he asked him sarcastically.
The man glared at him, "Yes John, I did. And you and your friends should keep away from my home. I have animals here and I do not need your bullets on my lawn."
The man who their owner called "John" laughed and put his hand on his shoulder.
"We both know this war was started by them, we cannot do this without you Jakob. You were one of our strongest men, and you just bailed out." John looked at him firmly. "We need you, Jakob."
Rex looked up at his owner. "Jakob" he wondered if that's his actual name. He barked at his twice and yanked on his pants to get his attention. "Not not now, Rex."
Looking at his owner he barked and yelped again for his attention. Jakob was too busy trying to fight Rex off that they didn't notice Moon was watching from the windowsill, silently observing John. She mewed for Rex to come back inside. He heard her mews and looking up a Jakob he nudged him for him to leave. Jakob looked at John and said, "No is no John and if you are only here to torment me for what happened in the past then so be it, Naydine died because of him, not me." Jakob put the leash on Rex and began to pull Rex to go inside.
Jakob looked up to see John gone so he pulled Rex back inside the house. John looked at Jakob and smirked. "This is for my sister..." He turned around and pointed his gun at him. Moon saw and hissed loudly that Rex turned around just in time to see John point the gun at Jakob. Rex pushed Jakob down and jumped on John. A woman's voice was then heard yelling. "REX! DON'T!"
BANG! BANG!
A shot rang out, then a scream was heard. "JAKOB!!" The young woman ran to the wounded man crying, "Jakob... Please... Don't leave me..." John gave her a smirk. "Hello Stella." She looked up at John, "How could you!? You killed your own brother!" Stella looked up at him in tears and anger. John picked her up by the hair and said, " brother in arms... He never meant anything to me after he left my sister and his 'girlfriend' to die on that battlefield!" He put the gun towards her head. He grinned like never before and whispered in her ear, "And you left me for him... the man who left my sister to die. Now you will suffer the same fate as that man" He pointed at the dead body of Jakob, "and you will pay..." She looked up at Rex who was starring in horror witnessing the death of his beloved owner and girlfriend. She looked up at John and said, "I'd rather suffer than be with you alive..." She teared up as the bullet entered her head.
Rex saw the body fall to the ground and ran inside. He got to Moon who was silently sitting in the corner. "Moon! We have to go now! Master was killed and so was his partner!" No response from her. Rex barked again, "Moon!" She still gave him no response. "Moon?!" He pulled her by the neck but refused to move. Rex kept barking that it brought other people attention. John had to move fast before they would call the cops on him. Quickly he lit up a match and threw it at the house making it burn and ran as fast as he could. Rex began to smell the smoke around them as did Moon.
"Moon this is no time to argue we have to get out now!" He barked angrily, Moons only reaction was smacking his nose. "I'd rather have the same fate as them..." As Rex whimpered and walked away, something crashed and scared Rex.
What he saw he'd never forget....
