You slowly walk into your apartment, cautiously peering around the entrance. The lights were on and you know that's not how you left them. Your heart raced a little but you had comfort knowing that you took a self-defense class. 'Hello?' your voice croaked, you took a few steps back just in case. There was a second of silence followed by footsteps from the other room.
'Oh hey! You're home a little early' a familiar voice giggled. You look back to see your childhood friend, Indy. You met him during freshmen orientation in high school. You couldn't forget the dumb smile he gave you when you complimented the hoodie he had on. 'Are you okay? You look a little pale' he added, with a concerned tone. You ignored his question and ran to hug him. You haven't seen him since he started his life as a professional overwatch player. He played off-tank for the Los Angeles Valiant. 'Oh, didn't know you missed me that bad' he smirked. You playfully hit his arm. You didn't know you missed him that bad either but, to be fair you haven't had time to actually think about it. You were more focused on your studies.
'So, what made you come over unannounced?' you asked, leaning on the back of the couch. Indy just smiled and walked to the kitchen. You sighed. He was planning something or was keeping something a secret. 'You know a smile isn't an answer, Indy. So spill the beans. What are you planning?' you urged. You hated surprises, more than anything. Not knowing what was in store bugged you.
'Listen, just let me do this one thing.' he begged. His eyes twinkled at you, as you stood in front of him. You couldn't help but say yes. 'Okay! Good because everything is almost finished. If you could be a doll and go sit on the couch, that'd be nice.' he replied, gently pushing you away. A little smile escaped your lips and you walked back to the couch. You couldn't help but smile when you were around him. He had a contagious happy energy to him, it was cute. 'Hey like what you see?' Indy winked. You didn't notice you were staring at him as you were completely lost in your thoughts.
'If you're talking about the cookies you're holding then...yeah' you teased, trying to compose yourself. You shouldn't feel these thoughts for your best friend, right? I mean, you two are friends, that's all. But then again, could you help it? He was absolutely charming and just stupidly adorable. You didn't understand how he didn't have a partner yet. Maybe because of the busy schedule overwatch league has? Or was it that he was just waiting for you? No, you couldn't feed yourself false hope. He only saw you as a friend, if not, he would have asked you already. It's been over five years since you both met. I'm sure there was a lot of moments where he could have asked you to be his.
'Hey?' Indy paused, 'are you alright? you keep zoning out.' You didn't notice he was waiting for you while clinging onto a small pile of snacks. You tilt your head in confusion and laughed, that was typical Indy. 'Don't just laugh, let's go to your room. That's where the surprise is!' he grinned. You smiled and followed him to your room. The door peered open and you saw a small fort on your bed. It was wrapped with your fairy lights and it looked just like those cheesy tumblr pictures. 'Indy' you hesitated, 'you really didn't have to do this for me.' You grinned, trying to hold back tears. Your emotions were everywhere but you really appreciated the sentiment. You never really had anyone do something special for no reason. He set the snacks on the bed and pulled out his laptop.
'Just one more surprise and this one is really cheesy so.' He softly replied. You sat next to him and leaned your head on his shoulder. You were curious what this was. A soft sounding song slowly began to play, it sounded a little familiar. Then, it hit you, this was your song to each other. Soon pictures and videos of you two began to play. You laugh at them, seeing how naive and dumb you two really were. The video soon ended and you looked up to Indy. 'I love you' he blurted. You didn't have time to even think before he continued. 'And I'm sorry if this is too much. I just can't help it. I'm really in love with you and I don't know why it took me so long to figure it out. But, I love you.' You put the laptop aside and kissed him.
'Now, let's actually watch something you nerd.'
