Charlie's fingers traced the drawings another student left on the desk yesterday. She had been paying attention to them all week, noticing that once a day, they'd change. Yesterday it was a flower. The day before, two silhouettes dancing. Today, two hands reaching for each other. It was beautiful and she envied the artist.

Tapping the pencil against the wooden desk, Alycia waits for her name to be called following the person she will be partnering up with for the art project this week. She knew it wouldn't be her best friend, the teacher would never knowingly pair people who actually got along with one another up, that would make everything far too simple.

"Charlie and Alycia."

While Alycia furrowed her eyebrows, glancing around the room unsure of who Charlie was exactly, Charlie's eyes widened the slightest bit. Her gaze met Alycia's from across the room and she, not so quietly, muttered a blunt 'fuck' to herself, causing one of those looks from the teacher.

Charlie knew exactly who Alycia was, in a sense at least. Starter of the basketball team, and numerous other teams around the school. Rumor has it, President Obama wrote her recommendation letters for colleges around the country. Okay, yes, that last one may be a stretch, but she was quite popular around the school, and if in some other world, the President did write a recommendation letter for her, no one would be surprised.

Long story short, Charlie has had, what some people would consider, a crush on their beloved high school star athlete. And set aside everything mentioned, she was absolutely gorgeous, no doubt, but in all of these movies, they turn out to be a bitch and maybe that's why Charlie never exactly made her existence known in Alycia's world. She didn't want this to be one of those stories. Well, that or her crippling anxiety.

The bell rung for dismissal of class and as soon as Charlie reached down to grab her bag, she heard two taps on her desk. Jerking her head up, it comes in contact with the wooden edge. Hissing in pain, she looks up at Alycia.

Of course it's Alycia, who else would she make a fool of herself in front of?

Chuckling she asks, "are you okay? I didn't mean to scare you."
Standing up, cheeks flushed bright red, Charlie opens her mouth to speak but instead she hiccups.

"Girls, your assignment is waiting."
Alycia looks at Charlie for a long second before grabbing the paper and walking behind Charlie out to the hall. Headed for her locker, Charlie's hiccups continued while the mental cursing to herself began. Why now? Why with her?

"Hey," Alycia's hand gently grasped the other's wrist. "Let me see your head."

Charlie turned around in the middle of the hall, facing the one person she has ultimately embarrassed herself in front of. Her hiccups continued, and as if her heart wasn't racing fast enough already, Alycia's fingers graze the bump already forming.

"It's okay." hiccup, mental 'shit'.
"I literally did more damage last week by bumping into a wall. It's really okay."

Alycia lets out a chuckle, tucking a strand Charlie's blonde hair out of her face. Obviously only to see the bump, 'cause that'd be more reasonable than anything else, yeah.

"Okay, well," She took a step back, but the smile stayed. "How about we try to not run into any walls after school, the coffee shop on the end of Sixth Avenue?"

She did this thing where she ever so slightly tilted her head to the side when she finished her question and it was possibly the cutest thing Charlie had seen all semester. Taking the safe route, she nodded and a hiccup followed after.

"I'm sorry- I don't know why they're here."
Her grip on the straps of her bag tightened, she was anxious and she wasn't sure she'd be able to focus this afternoon if this kept up.

"It's all good, I'll see you later! Bye, Charlie."

Closing her eyes after Alycia left, she scoffed to herself. That's one way to make a first impression. She threw her things in her locker and went to her last period for the day.
